Two weeks ago, the Islamabad High Court had barred Hanif Abbasi from working as a special assistant to the prime minister. Special Assistants can also advise the Prime Minister without notification.

According to the request of the High Court, the anti-narcotics force registered a case against Hanif Abbasi in 2012. Hanif Abbasi has been convicted in the ephedrine quota case. The trial court sentenced him on July 21, 2018.
