The 29-year-old Amir responded back to critics and said that the people have been ‘obsessed with him getting a UK passport’.
“I have left Pakistan cricket and I won’t represent any other country that’s for sure. I don’t know how can people just assume, who tells them that I’m just leaving tomorrow to play in the Indian Premier League, how is that possible?”, he said in an interview with Cricwick.
“Nothing of this kind is happening. I have a UK residence card as my wife is from there. If you look at players in the past, so many of them had UK passport. I don’t understand why are people getting obsessed with me getting a UK passport. Even if I get a passport from UK, it is my right as my wife is from there, my kids are British and they will study there.”
Remember, last week various media reports highlighted that Amir would be playing for England and then IPL after getting British citizenship.
Amir also took to Twitter and sarcastically took a dig at his critics. He wrote that people enjoy news about him and are still missing Amir. This is what he calls ‘love’
It must be noted that Amir announced his retirement in December 2020 citing he can’t play under the current management led by Misbah-ul-Haq. Since then, he has been regularly playing in franchise leagues all over the world.
