19 members of private militia held, No MNA arrested, Interior Minister

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed
Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Thursday categorically denied arrest of members of National Assembly except 19 out of 50-60 members of private militia of Ansar-ul-Islam who stormed the parliament lodges.

"MNAs were not arrested rather they are in police station for their publicity, "he said while addressing an emergency press conference.

The minister said under the constitution no one could keep private militia. Around 50 to 60 members of Ansar-ul-Islam stormed the Federal lodges and tortured police officials besides damaging their vehicles, he added.

He said five hours long negotiation was carried out with the opposition members. He said that the opposition stormed the lodges as they have failed to get required number for no confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He said moving a no-confidence motion against the PM was the constitutional and legal right of the opposition adding; to gather172 members for no confidence motion is opposition s duty.

He expressed the hope that Imran Khan will emerge victorious and the opposition would face defeat in no confidence motion.

The minister said that efforts were being made for the last two months to create chaos and anarchy in the country. However, he reiterated that no one would be allowed to take law into their hands.

He said violence would not be tolerated and violators would be dealt with iron hand.

All the Chief Secretaries (CSs) and IGPs were directed not to allow anyone to take law into their hands, he added. He said keeping roads open were also the responsibility of concerned CSs and IGPs.

Rasheed said PM Imran Khan has given an independent foreign policy despite severe economic challenges.

"Pakistan is totally impartial in Russia and Ukraine war," he said.

He said command and control room has already been set up at the interior ministry for next 20-22 days which would provide round the clock information.

The minister said only two person including Maulana Fazlur Rehman and me (Sheikh Rasheed) have life threats and we both survived several suicide attacks in past. A group was already held two days ago from Bahara Kahu, he said.

The minister also played a video message of Ansar-ul-Islam chief in the press conference in which he said that they would provide security to the members of the entire opposition, as no confidence motion has already been submitted against the PM Imran Khan.

Replying to a question, he said that they would not arrest Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

To another question, he said that personnel of Rangers and FC could be provided to the opposition members for their security on their demand.

Maryam calls PM Imran Khan 'country's enemy' for censuring EU envoys

Maryam nawaz
In response to Prime Minister Imran Khan lashing out at the European Union (EU) envoys last week, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz once again criticised him by calling him the "country's enemy."

“Who would be a better enemy of Pakistan than you [PM Imran Khan]?” she wrote.

Talking about the current economic situation in the country, Maryam said that the incumbent government has pushed the country into the worst crisis.

“Poverty, inflation, unemployment and terrorism has taken over the country,” tweeted Maryam.

Taking a swipe at the PM, she further said that “he is that person who doesn’t know about his country’s history, geography, foreign policy, or even diplomatic relations”.

The PML-N vice-president also said that the PTI-led government has "isolated the country from the outer world through its actions."

Talking about the no-confidence motion that was submitted at the National Assembly Secretariat two days ago, Maryam said that the "end of the PTI government is near."

“Your foul language, arrogance, pride and disrespect towards your party members has broken your party into pieces,” she wrote after former PTI leader Aleem Khan left the party to join the Jahangir Tareen group.

She also said that it is "too late for you [PM Imran Khan] to do anything."

Business activities of Jahangir Tareen group suffer following anti-govt stance

Jahangir Tareen group
Jahangir Khan Tareen group leaders on Thursday said that they are still a part of the PTI faction; however, they have joined the Khan group due to "differences with the ruling party."

Speaking to journalists, the group’s spokesperson Saeed Akbar Nawani said that the pumps and transport business of another disgruntled member, Ajmal Cheema, have been shut down since yesterday.

In this context, Nawani stated that all the members who have joined the group know that they would have to face difficulties as they have taken a stand against the government.

The spokesperson said that the political situation of the country is being reviewed on daily basis and that all the members stand with the stance and have no regrets.

“Samsam Bukhari and Asif Nikai are our brothers; however, they were never a part of the Jahangir Tareen group,” the group’s spokesperson said.

Shedding light on the plans of the group, he said that "no one should ever refuse negotiations."

“The members are yet to choose a name for the position of the chief minister,” he said, adding that no talks have been held in this regard.
