President Arif Alvi apologised to senior citizen over administrative injustice by FBR

President Arif Alvi
President Arif Alvi has apologised to a senior taxpaying citizen over administrative injustice by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and directed the FBR chairman to take punitive action against the entire chain of decision makers involved in the case.

Expressing dismay over the treatment meted out to 82-year-old Abdul Hamid Khan, the president said that "their heads should hang in shame" for the inconvenience caused.

“Punitive action must be taken along the entire line of decision makers in this case and the FBR chairman should ensure that those responsible, in particular, and others, in general, go through courses to learn priorities and courtesy," he said.

The president while rejecting FBR’s appeal observed that it appeared that unlawful treatment was meted out "with a view to irritate and humiliate" the aging pensioner.

Four PML-N leaders are "hell-bent on removing Nawaz Sharif : Fawad Ch

Fawad Ch
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that four PML-N leaders are "hell-bent on removing Nawaz Sharif from the party۔

Addressing a gathering in Lahore, Fawad said that there is a "rat race going on among senior PML-N members as to who would lead the party next," adding that, “four top-most party leaders want to remove PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in a bid to take over the party's leadership.”

The federal minister even claimed that the four members he was referring to "even went out to meet someone and confessed that since  Nawaz had treated the country in a bad manner, they should instead be given a chance to lead the party."

Speaking about the "lack of coordination and trust" among Opposition parties, Fawad said that there is "so much mistrust among the three Opposition parties — PML-N, PPP, and JUI — that they don’t even blink an eye lest the other one should strike a deal."

The minister further said that Nawaz, who is currently living on the most expensive property in London, is directly responsible for the ongoing inflation in the country as he was the former premier of Pakistan.

Murree incident occurred due to administrative negligence

murree incident
The five-member probe committee formed by the government to inquire about the Murree tragedy has completed its investigation on Sunday and has revealed that the incident occurred due to administrative negligence.

According to sources, after completing its investigation — which was based on interviews of victims and administrative officials — the probe committee has departed from the hill station to Lahore.

The inquiry committee is expected to present its report to the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Monday, sources said.

The probe committee prepared its report after recording the statements of victims and more than 30 officers from different administrative departments in Murree.

The probe has revealed that on the day of the incident, several snowploughs were parked at the same place which led to road blockages, the administrative staff was absent from duty, while a blizzard warning from the metrological department was blatantly neglected, according to sources.

On January 8, 23 people had died due to carbon monoxide poisoning while being stuck in their cars as thousands of tourist vehicles ended up being stranded in Murree due to heavy snowfall.

It should be recalled that following the tragic incident, the Punjab government had declared Murree as a calamity-hit area after heavy snowfall wreaked havoc on the city.

According to the local administration of Murree, rain and blizzards were forecast around Murree, with thunderstorms at a speed of 50-90 kmph along with heavy snowfall.

Further, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had also reprimanded on Thursday the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and said it was responsible for the Murree tragedy.

Cryptocurrency scam, No law governing virtual currencies in Pakistan

Cryptocurrency
The Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) revealed that currently there is no law or regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in the country.

DG FIA Sanaullah Abbasi said that there was no section of law available in PECA-2016, FERA-1947 and AMLA-2010 regarding illegal and misuse of cryptocurrency. There was no regulatory framework for the virtual asset service providers (VASP) to comply with the FATF requirements, he added.

He warned banks not to make transactions using virtual currency mechanism as at present there is a legal lacunae in the country to check against its illegal operations and misuse.

FIA is taking up the issue of critical legal lacunae with the State Bank of Pakistan on Tuesday for proceeding against this new mode of crime.

At present, the cybercrime wing takes cognizance on the basis of online fraud, which is not adequate enough, Abbasi underlined.

He said, "the FIA is also investigating misuse of bank credit card for purchasing virtual currencies overseas, and wants the banks to guard against any violation of their system for transacting virtual currencies."

Shahbaz Sharif lashed out at government for the rising inflation in country

Shahbaz Sharif
PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif lashed out at the PTI-led government for the rising inflation in the country and said that he will give the government a tough time because of that.

Talking to the media in Lahore on Saturday, Shahbaz said that the country is witnessing record inflation for the first time in history, while poverty and unemployment are also persistently increasing due to the policies of the incumbent government.

"It is the result of Imran Khan Niazi's and his government’s negligence and corruption," he said.

Criticising the government's decision to increase petroleum prices, Shahbaz said that the regime is committing the "economic murder of the poor."

"This incompetent and corrupt government has plunged the nation in the mire of inflation," he said.

The PML-N president said that whenever petroleum prices increase in the international market, the government quickly reacts to it and increases prices in Pakistan too but never bothers providing any relief to the masses when the international market witnessed a downward trend.

Responding to a question regarding the potential no-confidence motion against the premier in the National Assembly, Shahbaz said that the move will be decided with mutual consultation of all Opposition parties.
