Pakistan has not been well represented, says PM Imran Khan

Pakistan has not been well represented, says PM Imran Khan
Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday has said that supremacy of law strengthens democracy in the country.Addressing a ceremony organized by Policy Research Institute, the premier said that law bars corrupt elements from disturbing the peace in the country. “Unequal distribution of resources leads to anarchy among the people who are left out of the mainstream development,” he said.

The prime minister said the uplift of underprivileged segment of the society was critical to ensure across the board national security.

He stressed that rule of law and equality for all were the preconditions for democracy.

Pakistan has been labeled as dangerous country despite rendering sacrifices of 80,000 people, he added.

He regretted that Pakistan had suffered an inequality due to three simultaneous educational systems, namely English and Urdu medium schools, and the madrassas.

He pointed out that differences in educational standards of the systems resulted in three different kinds of generations with discrimination in opportunities of jobs.

The PM said that there was a time when we saw the development of Pakistan then suddenly, crises engulfed our country. Corruption prevails when there is no check and balance in the society, he went on to say.

While speaking on Kashmir dispute, Imran Khan said that the atrocities of PM Narendra Modi-led Indian government are continuing against innocent Kashmiris and minorities. The prime minister said Pakistan was blamed for wrong reasons by the international community, whereas it remained mum on the atrocities committed by India in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The west community doesn’t condemn this brutal act of Indian authorities, he stated.

The prime minister emphasized the importance of research by the think tanks of the country to counter the negative propaganda in the world.

“Research leads to original thinking within a society. You have to define yourself instead of letting others define you,” he said.

He said lack of in-depth research led to reliance on second-hand information by the western think tanks on important issues such as Afghanistan.

Pakistan, he said, was the country that suffered most in collateral damage in the wake of the Afghan conflict, however was made a scapegoat for the mistakes of the superpowers.

He mentioned that inability of the national leadership to handle the Afghan situation wisely landed the country into two main pro and anti-America divisions.

He said the role of local thinktanks in this situation was important to effectively highlight Pakistan’s perspective in the world rather than being under continuous criticism by the western lobbies.

Imran Khan said Pakistan in fact had a beautiful and positive face being the home of generous and hospitable people.

NIH confirms 1st Omicron variant case in Pakistan

NIH confirms1st Omicron variant case in Pakistan
National Institute of Health (NIH) on Monday confirmed first case of coronavirus Omicron variant in Pakistan.According to NIH, first case has been detected in a woman in Karachi.

The institute has stressed that vaccination against the virus is mandatory to stay safe from coronavirus.

On the other hand, World Health Organization (WHO) has said that the Omicron coronavirus variant is more transmissible than the Delta strain.

The Delta variant, first identified in India earlier this year, is responsible for most of the world’s coronavirus infections.

But South Africa’s discovery of Omicron -- which has a large number of mutations -- last month prompted countries around the world to impose travel bans on southern African countries and reintroduce domestic restrictions to slow its spread.

The WHO said Omicron had spread to 63 countries as of December 9. Faster transmission was noted in South Africa, where Delta is less prevalent, and in Britain, where Delta is the dominant strain.

But it stressed that a lack of data meant it could not say if Omicron’s rate of transmission was because it was less prone to immune responses, higher transmissibility or a combination of both.

Omicron infections have so far caused "mild" illness or asymptomatic cases, but the WHO said the data was insufficient to establish the variant’s clinical severity.

South Africa reported Omicron to the WHO on November 24. Vaccine manufacturers Pfizer/BioNTech last week said three doses of their jabs were still effective against Omicron.

Countries with sufficient vaccine supplies such as Britain and France have encouraged their populations to receive a third "booster" jab to fight Omicron.

Pak vs WI: Babar Azam hopes to carry World Cup momentum in series against virus-hit Calypsos

babar azam
Captain Babar Azam hopes to keep Pakistan's winning momentum going against a virus-hit West Indies in the limited-overs series, starting tomorrow (Monday).

Three West Indies players — left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, allrounders Roston Chase and Kyle Mayers — have tested positive for coronavirus in Karachi and were ruled out of the Twenty20 series. They will be in isolation for 10 days in Karachi and will be monitored by the team physician until they return negative tests.

West Indies Twenty20 squad already miss several top performers for the three-match Twenty20 series which will be followed by three ODIs — also at Karachi. The three T20Is will be played on December 13, 14 and 16, while the ODIs will take place on Dec 18, 20 and 22.

The notable absentees include white-ball skipper Kieron Pollard, who will miss out due to hamstring injury he sustained during the T20 World Cup, while Andre Russell is playing in the Big Bash League in Australia.

"We will try to carry the momentum which started in the (T20) World Cup," Babar told reporters during a video conference on Sunday.

"We are not going to take them (West Indies) easy because they didn't bring their best players. They have played in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League) and international games, so you have to give your 100 per cent to beat them."
Babar led from the front with loads of runs in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates as Pakistan went on to win its five group games before being beaten by eventual champion Australia in the semifinals.

Pakistan followed its brilliant run by whitewashing Bangladesh in the Twenty20 series 3-0 in Bangladesh before winning the two-match Test series 2-0.

Defending champion West Indies, on the other hand, floundered in the UAE as it failed to qualify for the semifinals. Nicholas Pooran replaced the injured Pollard for the Twenty20 series while Shai Hope will lead the side in the ODIs.

Babar sympathised with West Indies for losing three players due to coronavirus and believed its tough for cricketers to spend time in isolation.

"It's a difficult time for a team when your player tests positive [for Covid]," he said.
"It's difficult to live in isolation, our team has gone through this. Lots of negative things do come in your mind when you are alone in the room and the team combination also gets affected," he added.

PM Imran Khan takes notice of Gwadar fishermen's 'very legitimate' demands

imran khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan announced he had taken notice of the "very legitimate" demands of the Gwadar fishermen, adding that he would take strong action against illegal fishing by trawlers in the area.

The prime minister's tweet was followed by a series of protests by locals in Gwadar, who had taken to the streets to raise their voices for their rights.
"I have taken notice of the very legitimate demands of the hardworking fishermen of Gwadar. Will be taking strong action against illegal fishing by trawlers and will also speak to CM Balochistan," tweeted the premier.
Gwadar has seen protests for the past few weeks, sometimes featuring thousands of women with young children, speaking out against the large trawlers.

Locals say the trawlers, which are illegally plundering the Arabian seabed, are making it harder for fishermen to fish in the waters.

Fishing is one of the main sources of income for residents of the area. "It has become tough to run the kitchen now,” Rehana Gul, one of the protestors, had told Geo.tv, "In the last three or four years, there have been days when my husband, who is a fisherman, has come back empty-handed with no money to feed our children."

Despite protests from local fishermen about the fleets, they have received no response from the Gwadar Development Authority or the Balochistan government.

Anis Tarique Gorgej, the assistant deputy commissioner had said that the local administration is in touch with the protestors and all their concerns will be addressed.

"We are already working on stopping the trawlers and to facilitate trade at the Iranian border,” Gorgej had said. "But fulfilling all the demands will take some time.”
