Chairman PPDA while holding a press conference at Karachi Press Club said, "The association will observe indefinite strike by suspending the supply from its petrol pumps from November 25, 2021."

On the other hand, spokesperson for the Ministry of Petroleum said all the petrol pumps of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Shell, TOTAL and other companies across the country will remain open.

Majority of the petrol pumps in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Azad Kashmir and other cities are closed while some are open and witnessing long queues of the vehicles for refueling.

The spokesperson said that the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy sent the case to ECC to increase the margins of petrol pump dealers and the ministry is working on it.

PSO spokesperson said that their petrol pumps across the country will remain open and continuous supply of fuel at the petrol pumps is being ensured. “The PSO is always ready to serve the people,” he added.

Pakistan records 13 corona deaths in a day

Pakistan records 13 corona deaths in a day
The number of active coronavirus cases continued to decline as Pakistan reported less than 13,600 active cases for the first time in over a year Thursday morning.

The National Command and Operation Centre's (NCOC) latest coronavirus report showed 363 new COVID-19 cases after 41,240 tests were taken in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's total case count to 1,283,223.

Those new cases were outpaced by 1,000 recoveries in the last 24 hours, pulling down active cases to 13,538. The number of active cases has fallen consistently over the last four days. As of now, some 1,240,995 patients have recovered since the pandemic started.
Meanwhile, NCOC reported another 13 deaths from coronavirus over the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 28,690. The number of critical cases, too, are on a downward trend, with the current tally at 998 cases.

Pakistan is reporting 356 new infections on average each day, 6% of the peak — the highest daily average reported on June 17.

The country has administered at least 121,470,994 doses of COVID vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs 2 doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 28% of the country’s population.

During the last week reported, Pakistan averaged about 333,012 doses administered each day. At that rate, it will take a further 131 days to administer enough doses for another 10% of the population.

Hearing for three years that you will fail: PM Imran Khan

Hearing for three years that you will fail: Prime Minister Imran Khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan is addressing the inauguration ceremony of four new projects for the welfare of the youth at the Kamyab Jawan Convention in Islamabad.

The projects include Kamyab Jawan Markaz, Kamyab Jawan Green Youth Movement, Kamyab Jawan Innovation League and Kamyab Jawan Talent Hunt Youth Sports League

The premier, at the outset of his address, said he told his mother at the age of nine that he wanted to become a Test cricketer, but all of his relatives brought him down, saying that he could not become one — and not be a part of the national team.

The prime minister said he not only became a cricketer but also led the team to their maiden World Cup victory in 1992.

"I worked hard, become the best bowler of Pakistan and later on, the world [...] everyone told me that it was impossible," the prime minister said.

The premier said when he wanted to build a hospital, establish a university in a rural area, everyone told him that he could not do it. "When I came into politics, people made fun of me — including major analysts — for 14 years."

PM Imran Khan said people told him that in a two-party system, a third party could not form the government. "Ever since we came into power three years ago, I am hearing that we will fail."

"Everyone said it was impossible, but Allah made it possible," he noted, adding that no person has ever become successful through shortcuts, as the secret to success was having a big vision and determination.

The prime minister said that the youth has got the opportunity to excel and at the same time benefit their country through the loans and skill development programmes being offered to them via Kamyab Jawan Programme.

The prime minister said the country was going through a tough time due to the coronavirus as businesses had halted and prices of commodities shot up.

However, to alleviate the adverse effects of the pandemic, "the government, through Kamyab Pakistan, will provide interest-free loans to four million deserving households for building their own homes and teach them skills", he said.

The prime minister said that citizens of all the provinces and regions where the PTI is in power, including Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, will get universal healthcare, starting from January in Punjab.

PM Imran Khan said families could get their ailing relatives treated at hospitals under the health scheme — worth Rs700,000-1,000,000.

The premier told the event's participants that when he came into politics 25 years back, he had noted that the country's biggest problem was corruption.

He said a country where the prime minister and ministers badly damage the country's economy when they start corruption and siphon the illicit money abroad — and they keep it stashed in foreign countries to hide it from the people.

"I have said it already that nations are not poor, but when the prime ministers and ministers start looting the country's wealth, that nation cannot progress," he said.

Gold price in Pakistan rises again

Gold price in Pakistan rises again
The gold price resumed its uptrend in the domestic market and rose by Rs2,500 to close at Rs124,100 per tola on Wednesday contrary to a decline in the international bullion market.

Gold prices in the local bullion market jumped Rs2,144 per 10 grams to reach Rs106,396.

A day earlier, the precious commodity closed at Rs121,600 per tola and Rs104,252 per 10 grams.

Cumulatively, in the last three trading sessions, the price of gold has plunged by Rs3,000, according to the All Sindh Saraf and Jewellers Association.
In line with the traditional practice, prevailing uncertain economic conditions have sparked a flight from risky commodities towards safer commodities as gold is considered one of the safest investments.

However, the fluctuations in gold price are not affecting the local demand, which remained subdued due to lack of purchasing power.

The price of gold in the international market decreased by $9, settling at $1,788, due to persistent inflation concerns.

Meanwhile, silver prices in the domestic market remained unchanged at Rs1,460 per tola and Rs1,251.71 per 10 grams.

Pakistan among 110 countries invited by US President Joe Biden to virtual summit on democracy

US President Joe Biden
United States President Joe Biden has invited around 110 countries to a virtual summit on democracy in December, including major Western allies but also Iraq, India and Pakistan, according to a list posted on the State Department website on Tuesday.

China, the United States' principal rival, is not invited, while Taiwan is — a move that risks angering Beijing.

Turkey, which like America is a member of Nato, is also missing from the list of participants.

Among the countries of the Middle East, only Israel and Iraq will take place in the online conference.

Traditional Arab allies of the US — Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — are not invited.

Biden invited Brazil even though its far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro has been criticised as having an authoritarian bent and was a firm supporter of Donald Trump.

In Europe, Poland was invited to the summit despite persistent tension with the European Union over its human rights record. Hungary, led by hardline nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban, was not invited.

In Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Nigeria and Niger are among the countries on the list.

The conference was a campaign pledge by the US president, who has placed the struggle between democracies and “autocratic governments” at the heart of his foreign policy.

The “Summit for Democracy” will take place online on December 9 and 10 ahead of an in-person meeting at its second edition next year.

In announcing the summit back in August, the White House said the meeting would “galvanise commitments and initiatives across three principal themes: defending against authoritarianism, fighting corruption, and promoting respect for human rights”.

“For this kick-off summit [...] there's a case for getting a broad set of actors into the room: it provides for a better exchange of ideas than setting a perfect bar for qualification,” Laleh Ispahani of the Open Society Foundations told AFP.

Rather than using the summit as an anti-China meeting, Ispahani urged Biden to address “the serious decline of democracy around the world — including relatively robust models like the US”.
