All eyes on Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem in javelin throw final today
With all the nation's prayers and hopes, Pakistan’s star athlete Arshad Nadeem will compete in the Tokyo Olympics' javelin throw final today.

He will be seen in action in the final contest, scheduled to start at 4pm according to Pakistan Standard Time. Total 12 contestants will participate in the final competition today.

According to the details, in round one of the final competition, each contestant will be allowed three attempts to throw.

This will follow with the eight athletes on the top advancing into round two with three more attempts, while the rest will be eliminated. Six best of these throws will be taken into account.

The Pakistanis have their eyes set on Arshad as Pakistan has not won an Olympic medal since 1992.

The last Olympic medal for the country was a bronze, claimed by the Hockey team at Barcelona. Before that, Boxer Hussain Shah had brought an individual medal home in 1988.

Case registered into killing of Mubashir Khokhar
The police have registered a case into the murder of Punjab MPA Asad Khokhar’s brother, who was shot dead at the wedding ceremony of his son in Lahore.

The case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s nephew at Defence C police station. Nazim, the assistant, Umar Hayat and three other unidentified men have been nominated in the case.

The wedding ceremony was underway when Nizam opened fire and shot dead Mubashir Khokhar, the first information report (FIR) read.
The post-mortem of Mubashir Khokhar dead body was carried out late Friday night. The cause of dead was declared head injury. The dead body was later shifted to the mortuary of a private hospital.

Khokhar was killed in a gun attack at the wedding ceremony of his son on Friday.
According to police, Malik Mubashir Khokhar aka Goga and another person named Umar Mazhar got injured when a man opened fire at the wedding.

The injured were taken to a hospital, where the lawmaker’s brother succumbed to his gunshot wounds, the police had said, and added the assailant, Nazim, a resident of Manawala in Faisalabad, had been taken into custody.

PM Imran Khantests Electronic voting Machine
Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Saturday witnessed a detailed demonstration of a new locally-made electronic voting machine.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Shibli Faraz along with the officials of his ministry gave a detailed briefing to PM Imran Khan about the working of the electronic voting machine (EVM)
Shibli Faraz said there is no need for internet connectivity for the EVMs, the software used is in the machine is of international standard, he added.

On the occasion, PM Imran Khan witnessed a detailed demonstration of the EVM and also cast his vote. The premier also congratulated Shibli Faraz and his team for producing such EVMs.

Earlier in the month of June, Prime Minister Imran Khan had reiterated the incumbent government’s resolve to ensure transparency in the electoral process in the country.

He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad. Prime Minister Imran Khan had issued directives for making the process of use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in elections transparent and fulfilling all legal requirements in this regard.

The premier also instructed that the process of electoral reforms, electronic voting and voting rights for overseas Pakistanis be completed at the earliest.

PIA to bring more than 2 million more Sinopharm vaccine
An aircraft of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will bring more than two million doses of Sinopharm vaccine to Pakistan.

The PIA spokesperson said that two Boeing 777 aircraft will arrive in Pakistan from Beijing on Saturday morning (today) with more than two million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
It added more than 15 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine had been brought to Pakistan through over 10 flights of the national carrier.

Earlier on Friday, as many as 64,000 more doses of Pfizer vaccine had reached Pakistan.

The American vaccine had arrived in Islamabad onboard a foreign airline’s flight, the sources said.

Pakistan had signed an agreement with Pfizer Inc for procurement of 13 million doses of the vaccine. 100,000 doses of the vaccine had arrived in Islamabad last month.

Pakistan records 95 corona deaths, 4,720 fresh cases report within a day
Pakistan has reported 4,720 new COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours,quoting the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Saturday.

The NCOC said that the country’s number of overall confirmed cases has risen to 1,063,125, including 959,491recoveries, adding that the positivity rate of infections was recorded at 8.24 per cent.
The COVID-19 claimed 95 more lives across Pakistan in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll from the disease to 23,797, the NCOC said, adding that 4,275 people are in critical condition.

Overall 16,393,404 tests have been conducted so far to diagnose the deadly virus in Pakistan including 57,233 in the past 24 hours.
Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 396,918 infections, followed by the Punjab province which has reported 362,557 cases.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains third on the list with 147,452 cases. Islamabad, 90,093, Balochistan, 31,069, AJK, 26,086 and GB have reported 8,615 new infections, so far.
