SHOS GIVEN POWER TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST COVID SOPS VIOLATORS
The Sindh government has empowered station house officers (SHOs) to take legal action against those violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The Home Department issued an amended notification giving power to police inspectors to take legal action against violators of the government-defined SOPs at offices, industries and shops.

They have been given the power under section 3 (I) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014 (The Sindh Act VIII of 2015).

“Besides Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, Labour Officers concerned as well as personnel of Law Enforcement Agencies not below the rank of Inspector Police (or equivalent rank for other LEAs), the Additional Deputy Commissioners, Mukhtiarkars and Officers Incharge of Police Stations are also empowered under section 3 (I) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014 (The Sindh Act VIII of 2015) to take any legal action on any act in contravention of this (original/amended) order or directions / notices issued there under and including action under section 188 of Pakistan Penal Code 1860,” read the notification.

Separately, Sindh recorded 1,847 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the provincial tally of infections to 387,145.

According to the Sindh CM House’s statement on the Covid-19 situation, 36 more people succumbed to the disease during this period, taking the total death toll in the province to 6,057.

Pakistan to receive 3.5 million doses of COVID vaccines from China
Pakistan will receive 3.5 million doses of COVID vaccines from China within two days as the country has expedited its vaccination process in the wake of the fourth wave of the infection, reported on Monday.

According to sources privy to details, the vaccines to be brought to Pakistan included two million doses of Sinopharm and 1.5 million doses of Cansino.

“The vaccines will be brought in two phases and the two million doses of Sinopharm is a gift from the Chinese government,” they said adding that the remaining 1.5 million was purchased by Pakistan from a Chinese company.
The sources said that Pakistan would also be receiving 300,000 doses of CanSino besides also getting raw material for 1.2 million doses. “The Cansino vaccine will reach Islamabad on August 03,” they said adding that so far the Chinese government has gifted 1.72 million doses of the COVID vaccine.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan has expedited the vaccination process in wake of the fourth COVID wave gripping the country and Federal Minister and Head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Asad Umar yesterday said that they have set another record after 10 million people received the jabs within 16 days.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the NCOC head said that the country having a population of 220 million has inoculated 30 million people with the last 10 million being vaccinated in a record 16 days.
“The first crore [10 milllion] took 113 days. The second 28 days and the 3rd only 16 days,” he said adding that the pace has rapidly increased.

Pakistan records 40 deaths, 4,858 fresh corona infections
Pakistan continues to record a surge in COVID-19 cases as the country has registered 4,858 new infections over the last 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said Monday.

The NCOC said that the country’s number of overall confirmed cases has risen to 1,039,695, including 943,020 recoveries, adding that the positivity rate of infections was recorded at 8.61 per cent.
The COVID-19 claimed 40 more lives across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll from the disease to 23,462, the NCOC said, adding that 3,441 people are in critical condition.
56,414 tests were conducted during the said period.

Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 385,414 infections, followed by the Punjab province which has reported 357,735 cases.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains third on the list with 144,848 cases. Islamabad, 88,093, Balochistan, 30,502, AJK, 24,891 and GB have reported 8,212 new infections, so far.

To curb the spread of the disease, Pakistan also expedited the pace of vaccination and administered overall 30,590,183 COVID-19 vaccine doses on August 2, including 24,086,196 partial doses and 6,503,987 two doses.

PM to take live calls from citizens at 3pm today
Prime Minister Imran Khan will take live telephone calls from the people of Pakistan today (Sunday) at 3pm.

Prime Minister's Office announced on Twitter that the premier would answer questions from the public on telephone and social media under the session "Apka Wazir-e-Azam aapke saath."

During the live calls, people would be able to discuss their problems with the premier by calling the phone number provided by the government (051-9224900).

The calls will be broadcast live on TV.
