Pakistan records 2,327 new corona cases in a day
Pakistan recorded 2,327 new cases of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours, pushing the tally of confirmed infections to 983,719.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 31 more people succumbed to the disease during this period, taking the death toll to 22,720.

A total of 37,690 tests were conducted during the previous 24 hours, out of which results of 2,327 patients came back positive. The positivity rate of infections was recorded at 6.17 per cent.
The number of active COVID-19 cases currently stands at 43,670. Overall 917,329 people have recovered from the pandemic, while 2,388 patients are critically ill and currently admitted to hospitals across the country.

As of July 16, overall 21,660,650 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered including 17,336,845 partial and 4,323,805 both doses.

On Thursday, Pakistan received another consignment of 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from China.

A special flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), carrying the Sinovac vaccine consignment had landed at Islamabad International Airport on Thursday.

Pakistan has purchased 1.5 million doses of Sinovac from China’s vaccine maker, sources said.

The sources earlier said that 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine purchased by Pakistan will also reach Islamabad in July while the country would also receive a consignment of Astra Zeneca vaccine under the Covax.

ARMY OFFICER, SOLDIER MARTYRED IN IED BLAST IN BALOCHISTAN’S PASNI
A Pakistan Army officer and a soldier were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Balcohistan’s Pasni on Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The military’s media wing said terrorists targeted security forces using an IED in Khuda Bux Bazar near Pasni. Two servicemen, identified as Capt Affan Masood and Sepoy Babar Zaman, embraced martyrdom, it added.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said a search operation was carried out to apprehend the perpetrators.

“Such cowardly acts by inimical elements, backed by hostile intelligence agencies (HIAs) cannot sabotage the hard earned peace and prosperity in Balochistan,” it said, reiterating the security forces’ determination to neutralising such nefarious designs at all costs.

On Tuesday, two Pakistan Army soldiers, including a captain, were martyred during an area sanitisation operation conducted by security forces in the Zewa area of Kurram district on Tuesday, said the Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement.

According to the army’s media wing, security forces conducted an area sanitisation operation in Kurram district on the reported presence of terrorists. During the intense fire, three terrorists were killed and two soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred, the ISPR said.

PIA suspends swat saidu sharif flights due to lack of require passengers
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended its flights to and from Swat’s Saidu Shrif airport, rendering it non-operational again.

The national flag carrier cancelled Islamabad-Saidu Sharif flights due to lack of the required number of passengers.
In March, the Saidu Sharif airport was made operational on a request by the airline. PIA’s inaugural flight had landed at the airport on March 26, marking resumption of flights to Saidu Sharif after 17 years.

The national airline had announced to operate two flights from Lahore and Islamabad to Saidu Sharif in a week.

The Saidu Sharif airport had been non-operational since 2004 after the national flag carrier ceased to operate commercial flights to this destination due to security reasons.

SINDH LAUNCHES CRACKDOWN AGAINST UNVACCINATED TRAVEL
Sindh’s Transport Department has launched crackdown in the province against passengers travelling without vaccination, reported on Wednesday.

Provincial Transport Minister Awais Qadir Shah has said that the deputy commissioner Larkana has provided an ambulance to the transport department for vaccination of the unvaccinated passengers. “Over 50 unvaccinated passengers were administered vaccine shots in the ambulance,” the minister said.

“Ten vehicles were confiscated over not having vaccination certificates and non-compliance of the coronavirus SOPs,” transport minister said.
Moreover, Rs. 80,000 fine slapped over 40 public transport vehicles, he said.

Transport department’s teams in their drive checked vaccination certificates in Sukkur, Hyderabad, Larkana, Shikarpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Thatta and other cities of Sindh.

The minister has advised passengers to carry their corona vaccination certificates with them during their travel.

Sindh’s transport ministry has formed teams to check COVID-19 vaccination certificates of the people travelling through public transports across the province amid surge in COVID-19 cases in the province.

The teams will check the vaccination certificates at the inter-city and intra-city bus stops to ensure the people travelling through public transport are vaccinated against the pandemic.

The drive will continue until July 18, the department said.

Sindh Transport Minister Syed Awais Shah earlier said that only vaccinated people would be allowed to travel by public transport in the province.

He in a statement had said that the vaccination certificate of travellers would be checked to make sure they have got themselves vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The minister had also called for people coming to Sindh from other provinces to bring vaccination proof with them.

Shah stressed the need for citizens’ cooperation to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
