PM Imran Khan, Tajik president discuss bilateral relations
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Imran (PM) Imran Khan, reported.The meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House discussed bilateral relations.

After the meeting, the two sides signed several memorandum of understanding (MoUs) to extend cooperation in diverse areas, including political, economic, trade, investment, energy, security and defence, culture, education and regional connectivity.

Upon arrival at the Prime Minister House, a formal welcome ceremony in honor of visiting President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was held earlier in the day.

A smartly turned-out contingent of the armed forces presented a guard of honor to the Tajik President. National anthems of both the countries were also played on the occasion.

The Tajik president also planted a sapling in the Prime Minister House under Billion Tree Tsunami drive.

Earlier, President Emomali Rahmon along with a delegation met Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the capital.

Talking to the visiting dignitary, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan is determined to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan in diverse fields, including education, housing, infrastructure development, technology and energy.

The two countries have immense potential to expand multi-faceted bilateral cooperation, including trade, he pointed out, adding it is welcoming that the leadership of both the countries has been endeavoring to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

2 cops recovered as Punjab police launch operation against bandits
Punjab police on Wednesday successfully carried an operation against bandits and recovered two cops held hostage by them in Rojhan tehsil of Rajanpur district, reported.

According to a regional police officer, the police successfully carried out an operation and recovered two cops identified as Arshad and Irfan.

“We have also arrested 11 suspects including the mastermind of the abduction bid, bandits, and others during a successful operation in Rojhan tehsil,” he said.

The police have denied reports relating to negotiations being held with the captors to secure the release of the cops. “Both the cops were recovered in an operation against bandits,” they said adding a comprehensive and effective operational strategy was devised to recover those abducted.

They further said that both the cops remained unharmed during the operation.

It is pertinent to mention here that action against bandits in riverbed areas of both Punjab and Sindh have been launched to rid these areas of criminal elements.

In Sindh, as per a report on June 01, the anti-bandit operation in the riverine forest area of Garhi Tegho in Shikarpur district remained suspended for four consecutive days.

“Even the intelligence-based targeted anti-bandit operation yet to be started”, according to sources.

SSP Shikarpur Tanveer Ahmed Tunio has said that surveillance drones are being used to monitor the forest area along the Indus river. “We have gathered information and made maps of different points in the katcha area,” the police chief said.

“The chief minister and the I.G. Sindh Police have given us free hand to tackle the situation,” the district police chief said.

“To clear the area from the outlaws is our target, to ensure safe public movement without any fear,” SSP Shikarpur said. “This time it will be decisive and result bearing police operation in the area,” he added.

Pakistan reports 1,843 coronavirus cases in 24 hours
Pakistan has reported 80 more deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus, pushing the nationwide tally of fatalities to 20,930.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, as many as 1,843 new cases of the COVID-19 detected over the previous 24 hours. The overall country’s caseload stands at 924,667.
A total of 47,183 samples were tested, out of which 1,843 turned out to be positive. The positivity rate of infections was recorded at 3.90%, the NCOC said.

4,047 more people recuperated from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recovered patients to 848,685. The number of COVID-19 patients in critical care has come down to 3,767.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Punjab has reported a total of 340,557 cases, Sindh 319,447, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 133,124, Islamabad 81,357, Balochistan 25,295, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 19,287, and Gilgit Baltistan 5,600.

Pakistan on Tuesday had formally launched its locally manufactured PakVac COVID-19 vaccine today amid the ongoing global efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

The single-dose vaccine made with the help of China’s CanSino Biologics at the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said late on Tuesday he would announce “good news” regarding natural gas reserves in the Black Sea on Friday.

In one of the world’s biggest finds last year, Turkey said it discovered 405 billion cubic metres of natural gas in the Black Sea’s Sakarya field, about 100 nautical miles north of the Turkish coast.

Speaking at an interview on state broadcaster TRT Haber, Erdogan said he would make the announcement during an opening ceremony in the Black Sea province of Zonguldak, where he said he would have a video link with Turkey’s Kanuni drill ship.

Federal Minister Shafqat Mahmood recovers from coronavirus
Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood has recovered from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), reported on Wednesday.

In his Tweet, Shafqat Mahmood said that he has fully recovered from the COVID-19 by the grace of God.

“My latest two tests are negative. Going back to work today. The mild symptoms and quick recovery are without a doubt because of the vaccination.”


On May 25, Mahmood had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

It is noteworthy that the education minister had got vaccinated against the coronavirus in March.

Since the pandemic began last year in February, several top government officials, including Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr. Arif Alvi tested positive for the deadly virus and recovered.
