Board exams would begin in the country after June 15, Shafqat Mahmood

Federal Minister for Shafqat Mahmood on Thursday announced that board exams would begin in the country after June 15.

Taking to Twitter to share details on the board exams, Shafqat Mahmood said that Interprovincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) took place yesterday and it was decided that Board exams would begin after June 15.

“Intermediate and Matric exams would be given priority so that results can come in before university admissions,” he said.

The education minister further clarified in another message from his Twitter handle that respective boards will announce the exact dates but in principle, exams will start after June 15 with priority to grades 12 and 10 to be followed by 11 and nine.

Yesterday, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood dispelled rumours that the examination for class 9 and 11 had been cancelled.

“No truth in rumours that exams will not be held,” said Shafqat in a Tweet.

The minister further clarified that examination for class 9 and 11 will take place according to the time table of the respective boards.

NAB seeks closure of illegal recruitment probe against Pervaiz Elahi

An accountability court has summoned the NAB prosecutor for arguments on May 18 over closing an inquiry pertaining to illegal recruitment against Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its petition in the court argued that most of the accused of the illegal recruitment reference have passed away and some of them have retired.

The NAB has petitioned the court that its chairman has ordered closure of the inquiry. It sought the court’s approval to close the inquiry against Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

Recently the accountability court had granted a plea of the NAB Lahore to close an inquiry pertaining to assets beyond means of income against Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The NAB while seeking the court’s decision argued that no iota of evidence found against Chaudhry brothers in assets beyond income inquiries.

The prosecutor stated that since no evidence of wrongdoing had been found against the PML-Q leaders in these cases, therefore, it was better to close the inquiry against them.

Eid ul Fitr: President Alvi grants special remission in sentences for prisoners

President Arif Alvi has announced a special remission of 90 days in sentences of the prisoners on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

A special remission of 90 days is for all convicts except those convicted of murder, espionage, robbery, dacoity, abduction, anti-state acts and terrorist activities.

Earlier on May 4, a session of the federal cabinet chaired by the prime minister had approved 90-day remission to the prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that the remission would not be applicable to inmates facing terrorism and murder charges, other heinous crimes and those who are facing corruption cases.

Shehbaz petitions LHC for removal of name from blacklist
PML-N President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif Thursday approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking removal of his name from a blacklist.

He moved a writ petition, citing the Ministry of Interior and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as respondents.

Shehbaz stated that he was granted bail in the Ashiana-e-Iqbal and Ramzan Sugar Mills references, after which he went abroad and flew back after four months. The federal government has added his name to the blacklist, he said.

He argued that his name having been put on the blacklist is a violation of fundamental rights and requested the court to order the authorities concerned to strike his name off the blacklist.

On April 23, Shehbaz Sharif was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail after the Lahore High Court (LHC) approved his post-arrest bail in a money laundering case.

PTI looks for ECP to announce NA-249 by political decision results as void
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan seeking to declare Karachi’s NA-249 election results as void, reported on Thursday.

The PTI in its plea claimed that 17,000 votes of the constituency were transferred to other areas before the election in NA-249.

It further alleged that favorite officers from the education department were posted as presiding officers in the constituency.

The People’s Party also launched various development projects in the area to ensure victory of its candidate in the election.

The PTI also said in its petition that Form 45 were not issued to the polling agents at several polling stations.

The party describing the reasons pleaded to the ECP to declare the results of the by election in NA-249, Karachi as null and void.

All political parties expect Pakistan People’s Party on Thursday boycotted recounting of votes in NA-249 over non-provision of form 45 and 46.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had ordered a recount of votes in NA-249 on the request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Miftah Ismail, who had lost the April 29 by-poll to Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Qadir Mandokhel.

The candidates of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pak Sarzameen Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and other political parties except PPP boycotted the recounting of votes fixed for today.

Talking to newsmen outside the Election Commission Office, PTI’s Amjad Afridi said they demanded of the ECP to provide details of Form 45 and 46 and until provision recounting is unacceptable.

Afridi claimed the votes bags brought for recounting were even unsealed.

PM sets out on three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia tomorrow
Prime Minister Imran Khan will embark on a three-day official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia tomorrow at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and other members of the cabinet.

During the visit, the prime minister’s consultations with the Saudi leadership will cover all areas of bilateral cooperation including economic, trade, investment, energy, job opportunities for Pakistani workforce, and welfare of Pakistani Diaspora in the Kingdom, the Foreing Office said in a statement.

It said the two sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. A number of bilateral agreements/MoUs are expected to be signed during the visit.

The PM will also meet the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, the Secretary General of the World Muslim League, Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa and the Imams of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Medina.

Prime Minister Khan will also interact with Pakistani Diaspora in Jeddah.

“Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have long-standing and historic fraternal relations, rooted deep in common faith, shared history and mutual support. The people of Pakistan hold the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in the highest esteem,” the statement read.

“The relationship is marked by close cooperation in all fields and mutual collaboration on regional and international issues, in particular those faced by the Muslim Ummah.”
