Lahore: Due to health issues PMLN's Shahbaz Sharif shifted to hospital

He was diagnosed with a rare Adenocarcionoid cancer in the appendix during his exile when Pervez Musharraf was in power. He had received treatment in the US and UK. Shehbaz visits London twice a year for medical check-ups and treatment.

The Punjab health department has formed a medical board to examine him.

Shehbaz is currently under going a medical check-up.

In June last year, Shehbaz had tested positive for the coronavirus.

ECP will announce the plan of action for the Senate election on February 11
The Election Commission of Pakistan plans to announce the plan for the Senate election on February 11.

It has started distributing nomination papers to prospective candidates.

Nomination papers for the two seats of the Federal Capital Territory can be taken from the ECP Secretariat at the Constitutional Avenue in Islamabad, while nomination papers for provincial seats are available at the offices of the concerned provincial election commissioner.

The contact details and addresses of the provincial election commissioner offices are:

Punjab: 10 Court Street in Lahore (042-99212856)
Sindh: Block No 44-A Highway Iraq President in Karachi (021-99204694)
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar Golf Club Gate No 2 on Shami Road in Peshawar Cantt (091-9222475)
Balochistan: Bergenza Villas, Street No 1 near Zarghoon Road in Quetta (081-9203248)
ECP has advised all political parties and candidates to attach party tickets while submitting nomination papers.

Independent candidates, however, cannot attach party tickets.

Candidates have been asked to set up a special account for this purpose at any branch of any scheduled bank for their election expenses and mention the account number on their nomination papers.

The limit of election expenses for a candidate is fixed at Rs 1.5 million.

Pakistan has decided to bat first in the second Test against Proteas which will be played at the Rawalpindi Stadium from today.

Earlier in the day, both teams arrived at the Pindi Stadium with strict security arrangements in place.

South Africa is playing a Test match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium after 24 years.

Speaking to media after the toss, the South African captain said the wicket is a bit grassy which will initially help the bowlers.

No changes have been made to Pakistan's 17-player squad from the first Test in Karachi.

"The wicket is looking good for batting. We will try to score well," Pakistani captain Babar Azam said.

The match is scheduled to start at 10am. Both teams were brought to the Pindi Cricket Stadium from a private hotel.

Metro bus service suspended
The metro bus service in the twin cities was suspended during the teams' travel to the hotel.

According to the administration, it has been decided to close the metro bus service between Islamabad and Pindi at certain times due to the test match.

The administration said that the bus service operation will be suspended from 8:30 am to 10am today, while the bus service will also be suspended from 5:30pm to 7pm, which will be the departure time for the touring team.

According to the Metro Bus administration, the Metro Bus will run as usual at other times, however, Shamsabad station will remain completely closed all day.

Ed-Tech will be a core pillar of "Pakistan Education Policy 2021" as the education's future was in technology, said Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood during a meeting on Wednesday.

Presiding over a virtual meeting with Ed-Tech Industry owners in the Federal Capital, he said the Ed-Tech would be a core pillar of national education policy. The meeting was aimed to discuss Pakistan Education Policy - 2021 and the use of technology for the purpose.

“We should use the Ed-Tech to make learning holistic, enjoyable, integrated and to create an ecosystem in education which would make students well-learned and productive,” Shafqat Mehmood said.

He said the education ministry was going to launch a project of $200 million with the collaboration of World Bank for online content development and it would help to develop Pakistan Ed-Tech Industry too.


We were incorporating computer education from class 6 to 8 in the national education policy, he said adding the ministry was focusing on online content development and services and the USF had been asked to enhance the internet connectivity and coverage across the country.

Shafqat Mehmood said the ministry would also take an initiative to train the teachers to adopt these latest learning technologies and methodologies.

He further said a reassessment study would also be conducted by the ministry to gauge the distinction before and after the technological intervention in the education.

He said we would try to address the challenges of out of school children, equity, learning poverty through Ed Tech solutions.

Khawaja Asif’s judicial remand extended in assets case
An accountability court in Lahore on Thursday extended Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif’s judicial remand until February 18 in assets beyond income case, reported.

The accountability court’s judge Jawadul Hassan heard the case pertains to the assets beyond income against PML-N senior leader Khawaja Asif. The accused was produced before the court amid strict security arrangements.

The NAB prosecutor presented the report about reference against PML-N stalwart before the court. The court later adjourned the hearing after extending judicial remand of Khawja Asif

According to the latest progress made in assets beyond income case against Khawaja Asif, four witnesses have recorded their statements to the anti-corruption watchdog.

According to NAB, a bank peon in Lahore had submitted over Rs28 million to the bank account of Khawaja Asif following the orders of senior officers.

It stated that the nephew of Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Sultan, had submitted Rs20 million to his bank account after being told by his paternal uncle.

A senior political worker Rana Abdul Waheed had submitted Rs30 million to Asif’s account and told the NAB that the money was given to him by Asif.

Another political activist Sarmad Ijaz had withdrawn Rs5 million from Asif’s bank account and handed him over the money.
