Pakistan, India must resolve Kashmir dispute in a peaceful manner: COAS Bajwa

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that Pakistan and India must resolve the longstanding issue of Kashmir in a peaceful manner, said Inter-Services Public Relations in a statement.

Addressing the graduation ceremony of 144th GDP, 90th Engineering Course and 100th AD courses held at PAF Academy Asghar Khan Risalpur today (Tuesday), the army chief said that the Kashmir issue must be resolved as per the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan is a peace-loving country, rendered great sacrifices for regional, global peace, and firmly committed to the ideal of mutual respect and peaceful co-existence, ISPR quotes Gen Qamar as saying.

The army chief said that the Armed Forces of Pakistan are fully capable and prepared to thwart any threat, adding that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be misinterpreted as its weakness.

According to the army’s media wing, the COAS commended the critical role played by Pakistan Air Force in the war on terror.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa also congratulated the graduating cadets on their landmark achievement. Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan was also present at the ceremony.

The COAS awarded branch insignias to the graduating officers and also gave away trophies to the distinction holders, the ISPR added.

A total of 133 graduating Cadets including 11 Royal Saudi Air Force Cadets and 6 lady cadets graduated at the occasion.

Punjab government approved 15 years upper age limit for government jobs

The Punjab government on Tuesday approved the relaxation of up to 15 years in the upper age limit for government jobs in the province.

A notification has been issued in this regard.

As per the notification, the Punjab government has allowed relaxation up to 15 years in the upper age limit to all the applicants applying for the vacancies in government departments of Punjab.

It should be mentioned here that the earlier age limit relaxation for government jobs was 10 years in Punjab.

On Jan 30. it was reported that the Punjab government has decided to regularize the services of over 50,000 contractual and work-charged employees.

Sources privy to the matter said that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had directed the authorities concerned to regularize the contractual employees working in different ministries and divisions in the province.

The chief minister had directed the authorities concerned to submit a summary in this regard after collecting data from all the provincial departments, the sources said, adding that the summary to be tabled in the upcoming cabinet meeting

OGDCL discover gas and condensate reserves in Hyderabad

In a major development, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of gas and condensate reserves in district Hyderabad of Sindh province.

As per details, the OGDCL as the operator (95 percent) and Government Holding (Private) Limited (5%) has discovered gas and condensate from its exploratory well Sial-1, which is located in district Hyderabad, Sindh province.

“The structure of Sial-1 was drilled and tested using OGDCL in-house expertise. The well was drilled down to a depth of 2442 meters. Based on logs data, the well was tested at rate of 1.146 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 680 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate through 32/64 inch choke at wellhead flowing pressure of 460 Pounds per square inch (PSI) from lower Goru Formation,” informed OGDCL in a statement.

The company was of the view that the discovery of Sial-1 is the result of its aggressive exploratory strategy adopted. “It has opened a new avenue and would add to the hydrocarbon reserve base of OGDCL, its joint venture partners and of the country.”

OGDCL added that the latest discovery would also contribute in reducing the supply and demand gap of oil and gas in the country through the exploration and exploitation of indigenous resources.

Earlier, in July 2020, the OGDCL had claimed that it has discovered five new reserves in Pakistan.

4 killed, two injured by hit-and-run driver in Islamabad
At least four people were killed and two sustained serious injuries after being hit by a speeding car at Islamabad’s Srinagar Highway, on Tuesday.

A speeding car with the number plate Prado WX-077 hit other vehicles at G-11, Islamabad, leaving four dead and two severely wounded in the middle of Monday night and fled from the scene.

Superintendent Police (SP) Sarfraz Virk told media that the owner of Best Western Hotel, Waqas, was also present in the car along with his wife Kashmala Tariq’s son Azlan Khan that hit the people on the highway.

The driver, Fayyaz, of the vehicle reportedly belonging to Best Western Hotel owner Waqas, was taken into custody by police officials.

Police told media that Waqas received wounds on his face following the accident and reportedly went to a hospital. Police added that a search is underway to arrest him for investigation, whereas, the suspected vehicle was already taken into custody.

Rescue sources said that three among deceased people belong to Mansehra and identified as Amir Shakeel, Farooq and Haider Ali. Traffic Police told media that CCTV footages are being collected to ascertain the details about the vehicle, whereas, suspicions were also raised regarding another vehicle with number plate, Fortuner GAH-555 which is present on the scene.

According to Traffic Police, Prado WX-077 hit the other vehicles on the highway. An eyewitness said that the young man was driving the speeding vehicle which belongs to the owner of Best Western Hotel.

Sources said that the driver is being blamed to hit the cars before the police during the investigation into the incident.

Pakistan records 63 deaths,1220 new cases within 24 Hrs
Pakistan has recorded 63 more coronavirus-related deaths in past 24 hours, surging the overall death toll to 11,746,reported on Tuesday.

According to the latest statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the COVID-19 has claimed 63 more lives and 1,220 fresh infections were reported.

In the past 24 hours, as many as 1,285 patients have recovered from the virus in a day and 1,881 patients are still in critical condition.

The total count of active cases is 33,365 and the positivity ratio is recorded at 3.14 per cent.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), with fresh inclusion of the infections in the country the national tally of cases now currently stands at 547,648.

A total of 38,813 tests were conducted across the country during this period. Overall 502,537 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 8,005,794 samples have been tested thus far.
