Shoaib Malik 'perfectly all right' as sports car crashes into truck after PSL draft

Shoaib Malik 'perfectly all right' as sports car crashes into truck after PSL draft
Shoaib Malik is "perfectly all right" after his car on Sunday crashed into a truck parked outside the city's National High Performance Centre (NHPC) when the former cricket captain departed the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft.

"It was just a happenstance accident and Almighty has been extremely Benevolent," Shoaib Malik wrote on Twitter a couple of hours after the crash that had fans worrying for the cricket star.

"Thank you to each one of you who've reached out. I am deeply grateful for all the love and care," he added.

While the veteran all-rounder cricketer was reportedly safe, his sports car sustained damages to the front side when it hit the truck near a restaurant close to the NHPC.

quoted eyewitnesses as saying Malik exited the NHPC at high speed but was unable to control his car, which ended up skidding on the road and hitting the truck outside.

Some four or five people confirmed that the cricketer was driving at high speed. He was in good spirits but seemed to be lacking experience in driving the sports car, they said, adding that he and Wahab Riaz left together.

A local media outlet quoted another eyewitness as saying the former cricket captain "requested me to not make" a video while he was sitting in the car after the crash.

Corrupt opposition leaders sought NRO in writing: PM Imran

Prime Minister Imran Khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday claimed that the corrupt opposition leaders had requested him in writing to grant them a national reconciliation ordinance (NRO).

Addressing digital media representatives in Islamabad, PM Imran said that arch-rivals of the past, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have now shaken hands to conceal their corruption.

He maintained that his life would be a lot easier if he gives the opposition the NRO, but it would be disastrous for Pakistan. The prime minister said that he had opposed the NRO’s given by the than president Pervez Musharraf.

Talking about Machh incident, PM Imran Khan said that India was backing Daesh in the region to spread chaos in Pakistan. He said that New Delhi was sponsoring terrorism and sectarianism in the country. The prime minister maintained that India was behind the terror attack in Balochistan.

He said Pakistan’s security agencies successfully preempted Indian plots to fan sectarianism. Imran Khan said it is unfortunate that terrorists targeted Hazara workers in the thinly populated area.

PM Imran said previous governments did not pay due attention to Balochistan and always preferred to form alliance with the local chieftains, who became the biggest hurdle in transferring development funds to the grassroots level.

The prime minister said PTI government has focused the socio-economic development of Balochistan to uplift the common citizens of the province who are facing extreme poverty.

He said Pakistan is passing through a defining moment and the social media has a great role in setting new standard of morality by exposing the plunderers.

Power restoration to take a few more hours, says energy minister Omar Ayub Khan

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz and Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan
Federal Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan said on Sunday that power will be restored across the country within the next few hours.

Addressing a press conference alongside Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz, the energy minister said a technical fault was reported at the Guddu power plant at 11:41pm last night when the frequency fell from 50 to zero in seconds.

“We energised Tarbela power plant twice, which initiated the restoration process," he said, adding that electricity has been restored in Islamabad, Faisalabad, Jhang and Multan, while K-Electric has been provided 400MVA.

Omar Ayub said teams are facing difficulties due to heavy fog and the exact reason behind the technical fault will be identified once the fog lifts.

"The reason for the breakdown has not been ascertained yet. The technical fault occurred in a particular area," he said.

The federal ministers criticised past governments for focusing solely on power generation and neglecting the transmission system. "Under the government of PML-N, the country saw eight major power breakdowns," said the energy minister.

"When the incumbent government assumed office, no work had been done to upgrade the transmission system. We are now investing in the transmission and distribution system. A $6 billion transmission line has been laid in Matiari."

Omar Ayub said he was personally supervising the restoration work and has been periodically sharing restoration updates on his Twitter account.

Power has also been restored at the 500kv Rawat-Naukhar circuit and the 500kv Tarberla-Rawat circuit.

Omar Ayub said 132kv grid stations around Lahore have been energised including Shadman, Qartaba, Mc Leod Road, Gulshan Ravi, Fort, Saidpur, Shamke, Sagihan, Ravi, Bund Road, Badami Bagh, Sabzar, Sheikhupura, Orient, and Sapphire.

In Karachi, K-Electric said in an early morning statement that power has been restored at Federal B Area, Landhi, Malir, North Karachi, some areas along Shahra e Faisal, Valika society, and some parts of Baloch Colony.

Sources said power has also been restored in some parts of Gulistan-e-Johar, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Saddar, Bahadurabad, Naya Nazimabad, SITE, Korangi, Manghopir, and near the airport.

Meanwhile, the power supply remains suspended in most districts of Balochistan, including Quetta city.
