IHC shows displeasure over plight of animals at Marghazar Zoo
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday showed displeasure over the plight of animals at Islamabad’s Marghzar Zoo.

At the outset of the hearing, Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minhallah said that the administration is not showing seriousness in providing facilities for any of the animals at the zoo.

“If 60 days were not enough to shift two cheetahs from the Marghazar Zoo, the administration should have informed the court”, remarked Justice Minhallah.

The lives of both cheetahs are in danger as one of them is suffering from cancer and the other is infected with a disease.

Only politics is being played here, the IHC chief justice observed.

The secretary environment in his reply stated before the court that not only cheetahs but other animals including monkeys are also in danger.

Let us do our work, he said and pleaded the court to have trust in them. Later the hearing of the case was adjourned till tomorrow.

Earlier, the IHC was informed that the two brown bears at Islamabad’s Marghzar Zoo would be shifted to a sanctuary abroad.

Court grants bail to DJ Butt
A court on Thursday granted bail to sound system provider Muhammad Asif aka DJ Butt in a case pertaining to possessing an illicit weapon and interference in official work.The court approved his bail subject to submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000.

Earlier, police produced him before a judicial magistrate who sent him to jail on judicial remand. DJ Butt was taken into custody the previous day, just few days ahead of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) December 13 rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.

The Model Town police raided the office of DJ Butt and registered a case on charges of possessing an illegal weapon and obstructing a public servant from performing his duty by mishandling the raiding team.

SP Model Town Dost Muhammad had said a police team reached Muhammad Asif office and advised him against violating Punjab Sound Systems (Regulations) Act. The sound system provider offered resistance to the police, he added.

During a search, a twelve-bore gun and bullets were recovered from Butt, the police officer said, adding he couldn’t provide any licence or permit for keeping the weapon.

SHC issues notices to OGRA, SSGC over gas shortage
The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notices to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and others over the shortage and closure of gas in the province.

The plea against the shortage of gas in Sindh especially in Karachi was taken up by the SHC. The issuing notices to the chairman OGRA, SSGC and other respondents directed them to submit their replies latest by January 13.

The applicant in his plea stated that Sindh is producing 68 per cent of the gas of the total consumption of the country and yet the province is facing a shortage of gas.

Punjab is producing four per cent, Balochistan 19 and KP is producing only 9 per cent of gas. The applicant has pleaded the court to pass judgement regarding the constitutional right of people of Sindh on its gas.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had lamented that the province had been deprived of its due share in gas supply.

Speaking to the media, he had said he has written another letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, demanding that the province be provided with its constitutional rights.

Govt notifies significant cut in price of Corona drug
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) notified on Thursday a Rs3,564 cut in the price of Remdesivir, a drug found to be effective in treating patients hospitalised with coronavirus.

According to the notification, the new price of 100mg vial of the antiviral is fixed at Rs5,680.

The drug regulator has asked firms importing Remesivir to mention the drug price on its packet.

On November 27, the federal cabinet had green-lighted a cut in the price of the antiviral.

Earlier, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had suggested a 38 per cent cut in 100 mg Remdesivir injection price and recommended fixing the rate at Rs5,680. A summary to this effect was sent to the federal cabinet by the health ministry for approval.

Body of 14-year-old boy found in Lahore

Body of 14-year-old boy found in Lahore
Police on Thursday recovered a body of a 14-year-old boy from a house in Uch Sharif, an area located in Punjab’s district of Bahawalpur.

According to police, the body of the boy was found from a house in Basti Jamra in Uch Sharif and the people living in the house have vacated the premises.

Abdul Hameed, father of the deceased boy said, a friend of his son named Farhan took with him and later his body was found. The police is investigating the matter. The body has been shifted to the hospital for autopsy.

Last month, a seven-year-old girl was killed after being kidnapped in Lahore.

According to police, Nabeela, 7, had gone missing when she left her house to buy toffees from a nearby shop in in Baghbanpura area of Lahore on November 14. When she did not return home after a long time, the family members started searching her.

Later, her father had approached the police and lodged a report in this regard. Acting on the complaint, the police launched investigations into the incident and found her body in the garbage dump in the area.
