Last time the South African team toured Pakistan was in 2007 when the Proteas won the Karachi Test by 160 runs to clinch the series 1-0.
The subsequent series in 2010 and 2013 were played in the United Arab Emirates.
As per the PCB, South Africa will arrive in Karachi on January 16 of next year and will play the first Test at the National Stadium in Karachi from January 26-30.
The teams will then travel to Rawalpindi for the second Test that will be played from February 4-8.
After the Test series, the T20 series will be played at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium where the teams will play three T20Is from February 11-14.
"Upon arrival in Karachi and in the lead up to the first Test, South Africa will observe an isolation period following which they will hold training sessions and play intra-squad practice matches," said the PCB in a statement.
'Fabulous news for Pakistan cricket'
“South Africa confirming a tour to Pakistan and playing matches at the three major centres is a fabulous news for Pakistan cricket and its fans," PCB Director International Cricket Zakir Khan was quoted in the press release.
The PCB official noted that South African cricketers and their board have a "special bonding" with the country as a number of their star players visited Lahore with the ICC World XI in 2017 and the Pakistan Super League.
“2021 promises to be a bumper and most exciting year for Pakistan cricket fans after a very long time. After South Africa, we are scheduled to host New Zealand, England and the West Indies, while our away series are against South Africa, Zimbabwe, England, Afghanistan and the West Indies," said Zakir.
The PCB official noted that the home series against South Africa "will complete the process for full resumption and restoration of international cricket in Pakistan".
Pleasing to see so many countries returning: Graeme Smith
Cricket South Africa's Director of Cricket Graeme Smith said he was pleased to see "so many countries" opting to tour to Pakistan.
“As someone who has toured the country on more than one occasion back in my playing days, I know how much passion the people of Pakistan have for the game as well as the love and support that the Proteas enjoy there as a team," said the former skipper of the South African team.
Smith also thanked the PCB for the "hospitality and transparency" when the South African board's security team visited the country.
Babar Azam delighted
Pakistan captain Babar Azam said he was delighted that the South Africa team confirmed their tour to Pakistan.
Babar said he looks "forward to captaining" Pakistan for the first time in a home Test.
“Looking at the calendar of international cricket in 2021, I am pleased we are playing more against the sides which are ranked above us," said the skipper. He noted that playing against better sides was "critical" not just for their "learning and development", but also an "opportunity" to improve the team's rankings across all formats.
“With the amount of cricket that is lined up in 2021, I am excited that a number of promising and budding cricketers will get chances to break into the national side and cement their places,” said Babar.
Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh granted the Sindh government’s plea and constituted a larger high court bench, comprised of Justice Iqbal Kalhoro, Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi and Justice Agha Faisal, to hear the case.
The Government of Sindh in its petition said that demolition of hundreds of thousands houses could create a human tragedy and pleaded for providing the people an alternate shelter before demolishing their homes.
“The high court’s Sukkur bench has ordered removal of encroachments from the irrigation lands on the banks of Indus river, while hundreds of thousands people have made their homes on the lands of the irrigation, forest and agriculture departments,” the government stated in its petition.
The high court’s order could affect the residents in Badin, Larkana, Hyderabad and other cities, according to the government’s plea.
“The government working on a plan to provide an alternate place to affected people,” Advocate General Sindh informed the court and sought transfer of the case to Karachi from Sukkur bench.
The government also sought formation of a larger bench to hear the public interest case.
The Chief Justice granted the government’s plea and constituted a larger bench, comprised of Justice Iqbal Kalhoro, Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi and Justice Agha Faisal, to hear the case.
Sindh High Court circuit bench Sukkur had on Tuesday ordered demolition of commercial buildings on the state land within 48 hours.
The bench expressed resentment over non-compliance of the court orders to remove encroachments from the land of the irrigation department.
The court questioned permissions granted for construction of buildings on the state land, and ordered arrest of the Assistant Director Building Control Authority Sukkur, Abdul Latif Jarwar.
Police arrested the building control official in the court premises, on the judicial orders.
The bench had ordered demolition of commercial structures built on the irrigation land in Sukkur on November 19.
Advocate General Sindh had pleaded the court to grant two-month time for the removal of illegal structures from the irrigation land.
The court, however, ordered to remove the commercial structure immediately and gave a month for removal of residential structures from the lands after proper arrangements for the affected people.
Secretary Healthcare Punjab Muhammad Usman has stated that “shopping malls, restaurants and public and private offices will remain closed in the affected areas”.
“Restrictions will be imposed on the movement of residents in these areas and only one person at a time would be allowed to leave home”, provincial healthcare department top official said.
“Public gatherings will be completely banned in the areas placed under lockdown,” he further said.
The secretary further stated that shops dealing in grocery, general stores, flour, will remain open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm in these specified areas, milk shops, chicken, meat and fish vendors and bakeries will be opened from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Vegetable and fruit shops, tandoor and petrol pumps would work between 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, the secretary further stated.
“Our basic purpose is to restrict movement in the areas affected by COVID-19,” said Muhammad Usman.
On Tuesday as many as 55 areas of Lahore were placed under smart lockdown owing to the rising COVID-19 cases in the provincial capital of Punjab.
The health secretary said that medical services, pharmacies, medical stores, and laboratories will remain open 24 hours in these areas. “Collection points, hospitals, and clinics will also remain open round the clock in the areas,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that continuing strict action over the violation of the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Lahore, the local administration sealed and fined several hotels, restaurants, marriage halls, and shops on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, as many as 33 hotels, cafes, and restaurants were sealed after found violating the health-related SOPs. Two private schools, 21 marriage halls, and 74 shopping malls were also sealed by the administration
