Fawad Chaudhry laments PDM over rallies during COVID-19

fawad ch
Federal Minister for Education Fawad Chaudhry lamented the alliance of opposition parties, Pakistan Democratic Party (PDM) over holding public gatherings in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and blamed that they are least concerned regarding the safety of the masses.

The political leadership should show some responsibility for securing the lives of the general public,” he said and blamed the opposition parties for only prioritizing cases against them rather than the lives of their activists.

They only want their cases to be shut and are least concerned with the lives of the masses, he said.

Fawad Chaudhry said that Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz were out of the system and therefore wants confrontation.

They want to give the sacrifice of an entire cow to get two kilograms of meat, he said and added that their protest would end if the government agrees to amend the NAB laws so that cases against them could be closed.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Friday, the local administration rejected a request from Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to hold a public gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore owing to rising COVID-19 cases in the provincial capital.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore Mudassar Riaz Malik while divulging details on the reasons behind the rejection of a request from the PDM, said that only 300 people are allowed to gather under the COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs). “Even this permission is for the wedding ceremonies,” he said.

He further said that they could not allow a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan owing to its status as a heritage site. “The ratio of COVID-19 spread in Lahore is witnessing an alarming surge,” he further said.
