Pakistan submits documentation to UN containing evidence of India’s sponsorship of terrorism

Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram has presented Pakistan’s dossier containing irrefutable evidence of India’s sponsorship of terrorism to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York, on Wednesday.

During the meeting that took place at the UN Headquarters in New York, Akram briefed the UN secretary-general about the Indian involvement in terrorist activities in Pakistan, reported Radio Pakistan.
He apprised the UN chief that Indian is involved in orchestrating terrorist attacks in Pakistan and demanded him to take note of this.

Later, addressing a virtual news conference, Munir Akram said India is involved in sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and in the region and wants to paralyse Pakistan’s economy.

He said the UN Security Council’s team is also investigating Indian terrorism in Pakistan, which is an open violation of United Nation Charter and international laws. Akram said Pakistan’s dossier of Indian terrorism will also be handed over to the member countries of UN Security Council.
He said India is continuously involved in ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and Pakistan reserves the right to defend itself against any kind of Indian aggression.

The ambassador said Indian is also consistently involved in sabotaging the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which has a pivotal role in Pakistan’s development. He expressed hopes that the international community will stop India from sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan.

3,009 new corona cases report in pakistan within 24 hrs

Pakistan has recorded fresh 3,009 COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours, on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, 59 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 7,803. 1,214 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours and 1,867 patients are in critical condition.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), with fresh inclusion of the infections in the country the national tally of cases now currently stands at 382,892, whereas, the active cases stood at 42,115.

A total of 41,583 tests were conducted across the country during this period. 332,974 people have recovered from the deadly disease while 5,297,703 samples have been tested thus far.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) had given the approval to the COVID-19 rapid testing kit, sources told ARY News.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of DRAP, Dr Asim Rauf, had confirmed that a foreign pharmaceutical company has registered the coronavirus rapid testing kit which will provide the result of a nasal swab sample within 20 minutes.

Dr Rauf said the testing kits manufactured in Germany will be imported by a foreign pharmaceutical company and the initial testing fees will be charged up to Rs2,000. Only trained experts will be able to use the rapid testing kits and the results will be matched with the health condition and clinical history of patients, he added.

The DRAP CEO said that rapid testing kits will not be used for donor screening and termed the registration of the kits as a major success for speedy diagnosis of the virus. He said that timely diagnosis of the virus will enable the medical experts to treat the infected patients in the country.

Gilgit Baltistan elections: Official results reveal PTI as majority party with 22 seats in hand

The PTI is all set to form the government in Gilgit Baltistan after having secured 22 of its 33 seats, according to the official results announced by the region's election commission on Tuesday.

The PPP and PML-N — both of which have levelled allegations of rigging — hold five and three seats, respectively.

In all, the GB Assembly has 33 seats — 24 of which are contested through directed elections; six are reserved for women and three others reserved for technocrats and professionals. Political parties can nominate their candidates to the latter through proportional representation.

In the elections, the PTI emerged victorious on 10 seats, while seven were won by independent candidates. The JUI and Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) won one seat apiece. Six of the independent candidates have joined PTI after the election and the party already had a seat adjustment arrangement with the MWM.

PPP's GB chapter President Advocate Amjad Hussain was declared as the winner in GBA-1 and GBA-4. PPP also won GBA-24 constituency. The party also got two reserved seats — one for women and the other for technocrats.

PTI's Fatehullah Khan has been declared as the winner in GBLA-2, despite the constituency's returning officer's recommendation that a forensic audit of the ballots should be held. Earlier, unofficial results had indicated that PPP’s Jameel Ahmed would win the constituency with 8,817 votes against 8,200 secured by PTI's Khan. But the recounting of votes turned the tables.

Yesterday, PPP workers and supporters took to streets to protest against alleged rigging in the constituency. The protest had turned violent following clashes between demonstrators and police and four vehicles and a building of GB's forest department were torched by unidentified miscreants. Protests against alleged rigging and use of force by police yesterday are also being held today.

In GBA-3, PTI's Syed Sohail Abbas was declared as the winner, while GBA-5 was grabbed by independent candidate Javed Ali Manwa.

GBA-6 and GBA-7 were both won by PTI, while GBA-8 was taken by MWM candidate Muhammad Kazim. Meanwhile, GBA-9 and GBA-10 were won by independent candidates.

PTI also won GBA-11, GBA-12, GBA-13, GBA-14, GBA-18 and GBA-20 constituencies.

The ruling party also grabbed four seats reserved for women and two reserved for technocrats.

Meanwhile, PML-N was able to grab GBA-16 and GBA-21 and one seat reserved for women.

PPP rejects election results

Soon after the chief election commissioner issued the official election results, PPP announced its rejection, saying that the outcome was announced without addressing the party's reservations.

"How can results be announced officially when a protest by party workers is underway and PPP still has reservations?" asked PPP leader Nafisa Shah. She further said that the announcement of results had "exposed the nexus of federal government and [GB] election commission".

Shah said that GBA-2's returning officer had clearly said that a forensic audit of ballots should be held and yet results had been announced without conducting one.

"No matter what happens, [we] will not let [anyone] rob us of a seat that had been won," she declared.

Covid 19: Study finds antibodies in 7% of Pakistanis

The second round of a coronavirus prevalence study has confirmed that 7 percent of residents of Pakistan have developed antibodies for the virus.

The prevalence study was carried out to determine how many people in Pakistan have developed antibodies after exposure to the virus, said health ministry spokesperson.

The second round of study was conducted by the health services academy in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 10 districts of the country.

Antibodies are blood proteins produced by the immune system to fight foreign invaders like viruses, and may help to ward off future attacks by those same invaders.

According to the results of the study, people who are infected with coronavirus but show no symptoms probably account for most virus transmission. The researchers found that coronavirus rising rapidly in urban areas as compared to rural areas of the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan recorded fresh 2,954 COVID-19 cases and 48 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, 48 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 7,744. 1,389 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours and 1,751 patients are in critical condition.

On Nov 20, it emerged that the COVID-19 vaccine undergoing the third phase of a clinical trial in Pakistan has shown promising results.

It further emerged that the vaccine also proved useful for the patients who were shifted on the ventilator as 60 percent of them recovered after its dose.

Gold rate falls Rs2350 per tola in Pakistan

A single tola of 24-karat gold in Pakistan was sold at Rs110,500 on Tuesday at the closing of trading in the bullion market after the price of the precious metal decreased by Rs2350 during the intra-day trading.

Likewise, 10 grams of 24k gold was sold at Rs94,736 at the closing of trading.

Meanwhile, 10 grams of 22k gold was being traded for Rs86,841 with the price of 1 tola of 22k gold decreasing to Rs101,291 at the closing of trading.

Xiaomi’s profit jumps as smartphone shipments surge

Xiaomi on Tuesday reported a 19% jump in third-quarter net profit, beating estimates, as the Chinese smartphone maker’s shipments over the quarter surged by 45.3% on a year earlier.

Xiaomi has grabbed market share in China and Europe as its rival Huawei Technologies has faced U.S. sanctions that have hit its supply chain.

The company expects it will continue to gain market share after the latest round of U.S. sanctions against Huawei disrupted its supply chains in August..

Xiang Wang, Xiaomi’s president, when asked whether Huawei’s problems had helped Xiaomi, said that the company was “paying attention to what is happening into the market,” but was continuing with its own strategy.

Xiaomi’s smartphone revenue rose to 47.6 billion yuan, an increase of 47.5% in the same period, it said in a statement. Overall, quarterly revenue rose to 72.1 billion yuan, up from 53.7 billion yuan.

“In Q3 we reached a record high (in revenue), but we only have a market share of 13.5%, so the room for growth is huge,” Wang said in the company’s earnings call.

Analysts had on average forecast that Xiaomi would report third-quarter net profit of around 3.28 billion yuan, based on to Refinitiv data.

Xiaomi placed orders for up to 100 million phones between the fourth quarter of 2020 and first quarter of 2021, up 50% on projections before the August restrictions, consultancy Isaiah Research said.

However, Wang said that in Q4 a shortage of components would be a challenge for the company. “We can’t waste any material, we need to be more precise in production and design and product planning,” he said.

The company became the third-biggest seller of handsets in the third quarter, shipping 47.1 million units with 45% growth, consultancy Canalys said. Samsung is the largest, followed by Huawei.

Xiaomi is also attempting to court Huawei’s distributors in Southeast Asia and Europe in the hopes of gaining exclusive deals, and is actively targeting Huawei’s high-end market share in China, a source at Xiaomi familiar with the matter has said.
