Nawaz Sharif's mother Shamim Akhtar passes away in London

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif's mother Shamim Akhtar has passed away in London, the party confirmed on Sunday.

The development was confirmed by senior PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar, who announced the tragic news on Twitter. Begum Shamim Akhtar was 90 years old.

"Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif's respected mother has passed away," he tweeted.

Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill for quite some time and was being treated in London, said PML-N sources. She passed away this morning, according to party sources, at the Avenfield Apartments where she was staying with Nawaz Sharif.

According to party sources, Begum Shamim Akhtar had been ill since the past week and her condition had been fragile due to her old age.

Ataullah Tarar said that he spoke to Suleman Shahbaz over the phone who confirmed his grandmothers death and said that arrangements are being made to bring the body to Pakistan for burial.

He said that PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz had been informed about Begum Shamim Akhtar's death. Tarar said that a request will be submitted to the court to allow Shahbaz and Hamza Shahbaz to be released on payroll so they can attend the funeral.

Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Zulfiqar visited Aqaba port of Jordan, said PN spokesperson on Sunday.

According to the spokesman of the Pakistan Navy, PNS Zulfiqar was warmly welcomed by the hosts at the Aqaba port and the Commanding Officer met the host officials and discussed issues of mutual interest.

Commander Royal Force of Jordan inspected PNS Zulfiqar.

The Jordanian authorities were also apprised of the Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the plight of Kashmiri people.

The ships of the two countries also took part in a joint exercise.

Yarmook, a state-of-the-art 2300-tonne Corvette Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS), was inducted into the country’s naval fleet.

The commissioning ceremony of the modern naval ship was held a Pakistan Navy Dockyard in Keemari Karachi.

Speaking at the occasion, the Naval chief had said that the introduction of this vessel into the naval fleet would significantly enhance Pakistan Navy’s capability to safeguard its maritime borders.

Three TTP militants arrested in karachi

Three terrorists have been arrested on Sunday in Gulshan-e-Maymar area during a joint operation of Karachi Police and the Rangers, according to the law enforcement agencies.

According to Sindh Rangers spokesperson, the terrorists belong to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) splinter group led by Qari Sa'ad Bilal alias Hummayun.

The alleged terrorists have been identified as Yaseen alias Qari, Ikramullah, and Muhammad Khalid alias Mansoor.

All three had recently returned from Afghanistan and confessed that they had been planning to launch a terrorist attack in the metropolis, said Sindh Rangers spokesperson.

He added that one of the alleged terrorists, Yaseen, had previously carried out several subversive activities in Swat, while Muhammad Khalid had been a close associate of Yaseen for a long time.

The Rangers have handed over the three alleged terrorists to police so that legal action could be initiated against them.

Earlier this month, Sindh Rangers had announced to launch a mobile application in Karachi to create an intelligence network and provide emergency access to control rooms to the citizens.

Faisalabad: Minor girl’s body found stuffed in bag

The body of an unidentified minor girl was found stuffed in a gunny sack in Faisalabad
The body of an unidentified minor girl was found stuffed in a gunny sack in Faisalabad’s Jhang road area on Sunday, according to the police.

They said the body was found within the remits of Thikriwala police station and was shifted to Allied Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Her identity is yet not clear.

Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar ordered the police to swiftly arrest the culprit(s) behind the murder of the girl and ensure her family is provided justice.

Separately, Chiniot police arrested a man who allegedly attempted to rape a seven-year-old girl. A first information report (FIR) was registered against the accused after he attempted to sexually abuse the minor.

Meanwhile, police arrested a man for raping a seven-year-old girl in Lahore’s Nawab Town. The minor victim was subjected to sexual abuse on November 13 when she had left her home to buy things from a nearby shop.

The suspect took her inside an empty shop and raped her there.

Pakistan reports more than 2 thousand new coronavirus cases

As the country is witnessing a sharp increase in coronavirus cases since the start of the second wave, the Covid-19 positivity rate has soared to 6.8 per cent.

As many as 38,983 samples were tested during the past 24 hours, out of which 2,665 turned out to be positive, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The infection claimed 59 more lives across the country during this period, lifting the death toll from the disease to 7,662. The number of active Covid-19 cases increased to 36,683.

A total of 374,173 confirmed cases have been reported while 329,828 have recovered thus far. 653 of the patients under treatment are said to be in critical condition.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus began, Sindh has reported 162,221, Punjab 114,010, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 44097, Balochistan 16,744, Islamabad 26,569, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 6,000 and Gilgit Baltistan 4,526.
