Pakistan strongly condemns rocket attack at Kabul city

Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the rocket attack at Kabul city that have resulted in the loss of precious lives and injuries to many.

“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives and pray for the early and complete recovery of the injured,” Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said in a statement.

He said at a time when the international community’s efforts towards the Afghan peace process were moving forward, it was important to be vigilant against the spoilers who were working to undermine the peace efforts.

“Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We express our full solidarity and support for Afghanistan and its fraternal people,” the spokesperson added.

At least eight people were killed and 31 more wounded in a series of loud explosions that shook central Kabul today morning.

The explosions are believed to have been caused by more than a dozen rockets fired from different locations. Several rockets also landed near the heavily fortified Green Zone, where many embassies and international firms are based, officials said.

The explosions occurred in densely populated parts of the Afghan capital.

Kabul police spokesman Ferdaws Faramarz confirmed that “multiple rockets” had been fired, while photos on social media appeared to show damage to an external wall of a large medical complex.

Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said in a statement a total of 23 rockets were fired in the attacks.

No group immediately claimed the blasts and the Taliban denied responsibility.

Recent big attacks in Kabul, including two horrific assaults on educational institutions that killed nearly 50 people in recent weeks, follow a familiar pattern in the aftermath, with the Taliban denying any involvement while the Afghan government pins the blame on them or their proxies.

"The rocket attack in Kabul city has nothing to do with the mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said, using the insurgents' name for Afghanistan.

"We do not blindly fire on public places."

United States Ambassador to Afghanistan Ross Wilson condemned the attack I a series of tweets.

“I condemn this morning’s rocket and IED explosions in Kabul. Afghans should not have to live in terror. My condolences to the victims and those families of those killed and wounded,” he wrote.

Khadim Rizvi's funeral prayers offered in Lahore

Funeral prayers for recently deceased Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi were offered here in Lahore on Saturday in a simple ceremony attended by thousands of his supporters.

Prayers were led by Saad Hussain Rizvi, the firebrand cleric's son.

He will be laid to rest in Madrassah Abuzar Ghaffari associated with the Rehmatul Lil Aalameen mosque.

Saad Rizvi, who had till now served as the deputy secretary-general of the TLP, was also nominated on the occasion as the new chief of the party by its high council. He took oath on Saturday as the new ameer of the TLP at the Minar-e-Pakistan ground.

Thousands of people had gathered at Lahore's Minar-e-Pakistan to attend the funeral prayers for the cleric, whose party had emerged as the fifth-largest in Pakistan in terms of votes cast in the 2018 elections.

The TLP leader had passed away on Thursday after suffering from a fever in his last days.

He had complained about the fever as he led a large protest at Islamabad's Faizabad Interchange a few days ago, his family had confirmed.

Rizvi had been at his madressah on Lahore's Multan Road when his health worsened. He was first taken to the Farooq Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, and then to Sheikh Zayed Hospital where his death was confirmed.

The firebrand cleric is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters.

The 55-year-old was born in Attock district on June 22, 1966. For his early education, he studied Hifz and Tajweed from a madressah in Jhelum and later on studied from the Jamia Nizamia Rizvia in Lahore.

PSP Chairman Mustafa kamal indicted in illegal land allotment case

An accountability court on Saturday framed charges against former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal and other accused in illegal land allotment reference.

Former Director-General of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) Iftikhar Qaimkhani, Fazalur Rehman, Mumtaz Haider, Nazir Zardari, Syed Nishat Ali, Mohammad Dawood, Mohammad Rafique, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Yaqoob are among the co-accused in the case.

All accused pleaded not guilty and said in the court that they will contest the charges against them in the reference.

The court issued notices to the witnesses of the accountability reference, and adjourned further hearing of the case till December 05.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), in the reference charged Mustafa Kamal and others of illegally allotting 137 plots on 5,500 acres of land near Sea View. He even gave permission to a private construction firm to construct a multi-storey building in the area, the bureau said in its chargesheet.

The land was leased out to hawkers and shopkeepers in 1980, NAB said, adding that it was leased out in 2005 to a private firm.

Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) talking to media on the occasion called for devolution of powers and electoral reforms.

He said local council elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa yet to be held, even 14 months passed after the previous local councils completed their tenure in the province.

“It is surprizing Nawaz Sharif on his removal from the office saying ‘Mujhe Kyun Nikala (Why I was removed?) but he didn’t question removal of 57,000 PML-N councilors from their seats in Punjab,” PSP chief commenting on the former prime minister’s statements said.

Former mayor said that around 8,300 billion rupees funds have been spent over Karachi still every thing is creaking in the city.

Opposition parties doing 'reckless politics' over people's safety: PM Imran Khan

Criticising the Pakistan Democratic Movement for its insistence on holding a jalsa despite rising coronavirus cases in Peshawar, Prime Minister Imran Khan accused opposition leaders of "playing reckless politics with people's safety".

"The same PDM members who wanted a strict lockdown and criticised me earlier are now playing reckless politics with people's safety," the premier tweeted early Saturday.

"They are even defying court orders and holding a jalsa when [coronavirus] cases are rising dramatically," he added.
The premier was quote tweeting Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar.

Umar, who also heads the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), had tweeted earlier that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Peshawar had touched 13.39% on Friday. He said there were 202 patients in critical care in the provincial capital, out of which 50 were on low flow oxygen while 134 on high flow and 18 on ventilators.
