14 more death, 471 new Corona cases in Pakistan

Fourteen more died from coronavirus-related complications in the country over the past 24 hours, death toll reached to 6,601.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 471 fresh infections surfaced when 28,022 samples were tested during this period, lifting the national tally of cases to 320,463.

Around 305,080 people have recovered from the disease so far across Pakistan with addition of 471 recoveries recorded over the previous 24 hours. There are a total of 8,782 active cases of Covid-19 in the country. Of the total patients under treatment, 518 are said to be in critical condition.

A total of 39,43,734 tests have been conducted so far.

So far, Sindh has reported 140,756 cases, Punjab 101,014, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,427, Balochistan 15,577, Islamabad 17,526, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 3,198, and Gilgit Baltistan 3,965.

On October 13, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar had stressed that the implementation of precautionary measures is vital to ward off the possible second wave of the novel coronavirus.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan getting a large number of votes is an expression of confidence in Pakistan's policies at the international level.

He said that Pakistan has always raised its voice for the protection of human rights at international forums. The Human Rights Council is a very important forum of the United Nations.

SHC directs NAB to file a reference against Ex-Sindh minister

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for failing to file a reference against former Sindh minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and others in an assets case despite the passage of more than three years.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro extended the interim bail granted to Lanjar, Khan Bahadur and Hassan Effendi until November 16.

The court directed the anti-corruption watchdog to furnish a progress report regarding its inquiry against the accused on next hearing. Lanjar and other accused have been out on bail since 2017.

At the start of the hearing, Justice Kalhoro asked NAB prosecutor Ubaidullah Abro to explain why the bureau has not yet filed the reference in the case and how much more time it needed to do the same.

The prosecutor stated that the NAB has got more evidence against Lanjar as it has traced his another benami property in Sakrand. The former provincial law minister owns benami land measuring 260 acres in Sakrand, he said and added the verification process of the benami property is underway.

The prosecutor said the bureau needs more time to wrap up its investigation against the accused.

After two more schools sealed, closed institutes rises to 21 in capital

With two more educational institutions were sealed on Monday following emergence of Covid-19 cases, the tally of school buildings sealed since September 14 has reached 21.

Officials of the capital administration said a private school at Tarlai and a government school at F-6/2 were sealed after two or more confirmed cases of the virus were detected there. The buildings have been vacated and sealed to avid the spread of the virus among staff and students.

The administrations of the schools were asked to advise the staff and students to quarantine for 14 days.

The confirmed cases are being investigated by teams from the District Health Office to trace their contacts.

Since September 14, over 11,000 tests have been conducted at government institutes and about 10,500 at private institutes, said the officials, adding 28 positive cases were detected at government and 29 at private institutes.

Since Sept 14, over 11,000 tests have been conducted at government and about 10,500 at private institutes

So far, 25 buildings have been sealed in the capital upon detection of Covid-19 positive cases, including 21 educational institutes.

On Monday, there was a decrease in the number of confirmed cases compared to Sunday.

The officials said 35 people tested positive on Monday compared to 86 on Sunday.

Besides, another patient died of the virus, taking the toll to 189.

Five cases each were reported from Tarlai, G-6, two each from B-17, F-10, Chak Shahzad, Bhara Kahu and one each from G-5, Jinnah Garden, G-15, I-10, G-9, G-7, G-11, G-10, F-8, F-7, F-6.

Six cases were reported from other areas, they added.
