NAB Sukkur arrests flour mill owner in wheat misappropriation case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sukkur has arrested a flour mill owner in wheat misappropriation case.

Ashok Kumar, a flour mills owner, has been arrested from Ghotki, NAB sources said.

The accused had purchased wheat from government stocks on credit basis but failed to pay over 100 million rupees amount in a fixed period, according to NAB.

The bureau will produce accused Ashok Kumar before an accountability court to seek physical remand of the accused for investigation, sources said.

It is to be mentioned here that NAB Sukkur bureau had authorised score of inquiries against officials of provincial food department and others on the allegations of misappropriation of wheat stock available at Provisional Reserve Centers (PRCs) in different districts in Sindh.

NAB Sukkur had also conducted inquiries against the food department officials and flourmill owners on the allegations of release of wheat stock on 180 days credit basis where the flourmill owners did not pay the amount after laps of 180 days.

COVID-19: Balochistan have 213 active cases,health deptt
The tally of active cases of COVID-19 in Balochistan has dropped to 213 cases, a spokesperson of Balochistan Health Department said on Saturday.

In a statement, provincial health department said that 98 percent coronavirus patients have recovered to health in Balochistan. The number of recuperated patients across the province has been 15,139, health department said.

In last 24 hours 18 cases of novel coronavirus were reported across the province in 1245 diagnostic tests, health department spokesperson said.

Total count of coronavirus cases has reached to 15,498 after detection of 18 new infections in Balochistan.

Overall 146 deaths were reported due to COVID-19 in Balochistan, as no fatility reported in last 24 hours, according to the statement.

The death rate of COVID-19 patients in Balochistan remained one percent, health department spokesperson said.

Pakistan reported six more coronavirus-related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll from the disease to 6,558.

As many as 33,365 samples were tested during this period, out of which 671 turned out to be positive, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

The number of Covid-19 cases across the country has reached 318,266 with the addition of 671 new cases. There are 8,646 active Covid-19 cases as 303,061 patients have recuperated from the disease.

More than 3.8 million tests have been conducted in the country so far. 475 of the patients under treatment at various hospitals across the country are said to be in critical condition.

Yesterday, the NCOC observed that the coronavirus situation can become critical if SOPs are violated by wedding halls and rolled out a set of new guidelines for them to prevent the resurgence of cases. As per the new SOPs, only 300 guests inside the halls and 500 guests for the outdoor function will be allowed. The duration of ceremonies has also been reduced to two hours.

Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi paid a visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi where he met with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of professional interest came under discussion.

COAS Bajwa felicitated Admiral Niazi on taking charge as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and expressed the hope that Pakistan Navy will scale new heights of success under his leadership.

Admiral Niazi also paid his respects and laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument in GHQ.

Later, he visited the Joint Chief of Staff Headquarters where he met with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza. General Raza congratulated the new naval chief on assuming office and expressed satisfaction on operational preparedness of Pakistan Navy.

October 7, Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi had assumed command as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) during a change of command ceremony held at PNS Zafar in Islamabad.

During the ceremony, outgoing CNS Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi formally handed over the command of Pakistan Navy by presenting the traditional scroll to Admiral Niazi. The outgoing naval chief was also presented a guard of honour.

"STREET WATCHER SYSTEM" introduced by ICT Police to check crime in Islamabad

Police decided to introduce ‘street watcher system’ initially in City Zone area of Islamabad, which would help enhance cooperation between police and public and curb crime.

A press release issued that the street watchers would be deputed at streets and sub-sectors which would assist police in its efforts to curb crime.

They would inform police in case of any suspicious activity in their respective area and keep a vigilant eye on security guards and domestic servants.

Police and street watchers would remain in contact with each other round the clock through a mobile app.

Moreover, street patrol units have been constituted comprising 50 motorcyclists which would conduct patrolling and checking in various sectors and markets in peak timings.

Each unit or contingent would comprise four policemen patrolling on two bikes to curb street crime.

Air Patrol Unit has been also set up having four drone cameras to be used during rescue operation, ensure protection to the tourists at walking trails and guide those forgetting their ways.

All these units would work under the supervision of SP (City) which was formally inaugurated by Islamabad IG Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar khan.

DIG (Operations) Waqaruddin Syed, SSP (CTD), members of Chamber of Commerce and conciliatory committees were also present on the occasion.

IGP Islamabad said that police using all resources to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens and adopting modern techniques for effective policing. He expressed the hope that these steps would help a lot to overcome crime and ensure safety to people.

Five more institutions sealed in capital after 10 Covid-19 cases

Five more schools, colleges sealed in the capital on Friday after detection of two Covid-19 positive cases in each of the institutes.

Officials of the capital administration said the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination had ordered immediate sealing of two colleges and three schools for a period as deemed fit by the competent authority. Disinfection of the buildings and Covid-19 testing of all the exposed staff/students were also ordered.

Moreover, all close contacts of the positive patients should be quarantined for a period of 14 days.

In response, the capital administration issued directives to seal the institutes. The buildings were later vacated and sealed by the police.

Students, staff of institutions advised to quarantine for two weeks

The two colleges are located at H-8/1 and H-8/2 while the schools are at G-6/1-3, G-11, 4 and I-9/3.

The virus was detected among people in the institutions during random testing, the officials said, adding details of the confirmed cases were collected and the District Health Office started a process to get details of their contacts and other exposed staff and students.

The confirmed patients were asked to remain on isolation at their houses. Besides, all students and staff of the institutions were advised to remain on quarantine for two weeks.

Meanwhile, four people died of Covid-19 in the capital during the last two days. Three deaths were reported on Thursday and two on Friday.

The number of positive cases on Friday increased to 113 from 73 on Thursday. On July 15, as many as 113 confirmed cases were reported and since then number had remained under 100.

The officials said 14 of the latest cases were reported from I-9 followed by nine from D-12, eight from I-8, five each from Chatha Bakhtawar, DHA, G-9, F-6, Bhara Kahu, four each from PWD, Ghouri Town, G-6, G-11, F-7, three each from Bahria Town, Sihala, I-10, H-8, G-10, Shahzad Town, two each from CBR Town, Pims Colony, G-7, Blue Area, E-11, Margalla Town, and one each from Jinnah Garden, Golra, G-13, B-17, F-8, F-11 and E-9.

Postpone public meetings to stem 2nd wave of virus, Fawad
Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry urged on Saturday political parties to postpone their planned public gatherings for at least three months to stem the second wave of the novel coronavirus.

In a Twitter post, he said the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Covid-19 has issued new standard operating procedures (SOPs), restricting wedding receptions in terms of both number of guests and duration of the function and other events in view of the second wave of the deadly disease rearing its ugly head in the country.

Fawad said political parties should demonstrate a sense of responsibility and postpone their public gathers for a period of three months. He also urged the opposition to put off their anti-government movement until next year.
