ACE Punjab has launched a crackdown against 495 illegal petrol pumps.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab has launched a crackdown against ‘illegal petrol pumps’ across the province that are responsible for losses worth billions of rupees to the exchequer.

According to the DG ACE Punjab, 495 illegal petrol pumps have been unearthed, out of which checking of 202 has already been completed and 154 have been sealed.

He said various violations of rules including lack of safety equipment and location of pumps near schools and hospitals were unearthed. These pumps have neither any agreement with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and were selling diesel after mixing kerosene oil.
In addition to the above violations, these pumps were also found selling smuggled oil, which remains outside the sales tax net and results in vast losses for the government.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed to expedite the process of reforms in the petroleum sector.

He had issued directives to Special Assistant on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, who called on him in Islamabad.

The prime minister Imran Khan had directed the minister to take every necessary step for bringing improvement in the petroleum sector and providing relief to the masses.

Two more Kashmiris martyred in occupied Kashmir
Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two youth during a search and cordon-off operation in Shopian district Indian occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.

According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the troops also continued their cordon and search operations in several other areas of the territory.

The Indian occupation forces continued its acts of state-terrorism in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and martyred 18 Kashmiris including one in custody during the last month of September.
The killings rendered two women widowed and four children orphaned by the brutal action of the Indian troops, according to a report issued by the Kashmir Media Service (KMS).

During the period, at least 16 persons were injured due to the use of brute force including the firing of bullets, pellets and teargas shells by Indian troops and police personnel on peaceful protesters in the territory.

Indian police and paramilitary personnel arrested 88 people and destroyed or damaged 14 residential houses and structures during 567 cordons and search operations in different areas of the occupied Kashmir during September.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to continue to play a positive role for regional peace and security including the Afghan peace process.

He made the remarks during his telephonic conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavusoglu.

FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi thanked the Turkish counterpart for his country’s consistent and categorical stance on the mir dispute.

He said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the voice of oppressed Kashmiri people at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly and this has given courage and confidence to the Kashmiri people.

The foreign minister said it is a matter of satisfaction that both countries share identical views on important regional and international matters. Qureshi also invited his Turkish counterpart to visit Pakistan.

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavusoglu lauded the steps taken by Pakistan for regional peace including its efforts for peace in Afghanistan.

Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had told the UN General Assembly that the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan was a “burning issue”, and called for resolving it through dialogue.’

In a speech made via video-link to the 193-member Assembly’s landmark 75th session, Erdogan had said that steps taken following the abolition of the special status of Jammu-Kashmir further complicated the problem.

Coronavirus kills 12 more people, affects 624 in 24 hours
As many as 624 more people tested positive for the deadly coronavirus across the country during the last 24 hours, lifting the national tally of infections to 316,351.

Twelve corona patients, who were under treatment in hospitals, died during this period, according to the latest update shared by the National command and Operation Centre (NCOC). Thus far, 6,535 Covid-19 related fatalities have been reported.

Some 27, 614 tests were conducted across the country during the previous 24 hours. More than 300,616 people have recovered from the disease so far across Pakistan.

Since the pandemic outbreak began, Sindh has reported 138,891 infections, Punjab 100,148, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,141, Balochistan 15,439, Islamabad 16,936, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 2,912 and Gilgit Baltistan 3,884.

A total of 3,730,221 corona tests have been conducted so far.

Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi on Wednesday assumed command as Chief of the Naval Staff.

Outgoing naval chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi formally handed over the command by presenting the traditional scroll to Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi at an elaborate ceremony held in Islamabad.

A guard of honour was presented to the outgoing and incoming naval chiefs at the ceremony.

In his farewell address, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said he was proud that he was given the honour of defending Pakistan and leading charge of the navy.

He said the naval force of today is fully capable to defend the motherland and thwart nefarious designs against the country.

Admiral Zafar Mahmood congratulated Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi over assuming charge of the PN.

Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi joined Pakistan Navy in 1983. Also a recipient of Sword of Honour, the Admiral has an illustrious career with wide-ranging experience of various Command and Staff appointments.

His major Command appointments include Commanding Officer PNS BADR, Commanding Officer PNS TARIQ, Commander18th Destroyer squadron, Commandant PNS BAHADUR and Commandant Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore.

He is a graduate of Army Command & Staff College, Quetta and National Defence University, Islamabad. The Admiral has been awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-e-Basalat by the Government of Pakistan and French Medal Chevalier (Knight) by the Government of France.
