 Paragon case: Khawaja brothers appear before NAB court
An accountability court in Lahore conducted the hearing of the Paragon Housing Society case against Khawaja brothers today.

The accountability court’s judge Jawadul Hassan heard the corruption case against Khawaja Saad Rafique and Khawaja Salman Rafique. The Khawaja brothers appeared in the hearing.

A witness, Abdul Ghafoor Patwari, started recording his statement before the court during the hearing.

According to NAB, Saad Rafique in collusion with his wife Ghazala Saad Rafique Butt, brother Salman Rafique, Qaiser Amin Butt and Nadeem Zia had launched a housing project named Air Avenue, which was later renamed to Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd).

Saad Rafique, his brother Salman Rafique, Nadeem Zia, Umar Zia, and Farhan Ali were named accused in accountability reference comprising of 17 volumes.

According to the reference, the Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Salman Rafique and Nadeem Zia owned 93.2 per cent shares in the Paragon Housing Society.

Besides, Saad Rafique acquired 40 kanals of land in his and his brother’s name, which he used to extend the project illegally and sold commercial plots worth billions of rupees.

It states that the former railway minister received monetary benefits to the tune of Rs58 million from the society whereas his brother Rs39 million.

Mother of three children gang-raped in Punjab

Mother of three children gang-raped in Punjab
Another gang-rape case has been reported in Punjab, where a mother of three children was sexually abused in Qadirpur Ran, Multan, reported on Friday.

As per details, the gang-rape case was reported in Badhala Sant area in Qadirpur Ran. The incident is said to be one month old, while rapists are still at large.

The victim’s family has accused that influential family is forcing them to settlement.

In the recent past, the number of rape cases in Punjab is increasing rapidly.

Yesterday, a young woman waiting for transport to commute at Jaranwala Road was allegedly gang-raped by six men.

In a separate incident of gang-rape reported in Okara in the month of September, a woman was allegedly gang-raped during a robbery in Depalpur.

Police registered an FIR of the incident against seven suspects on the complaint of the victim’s husband. The woman was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Depalpur in critical condition, a police official had said.

Coronavirus takes 15 more lives in Pakistan in 24 hours
The novel coronavirus claimed fifteen more lives during the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll from the disease to 6,499.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 31,697 samples were tested for the infection during this period, out of which 625 declared positive. The number of Covid-19 cases across the country has reached 313,431 with the addition of the new cases.

Thus far, 298,055 patients have recuperated from the infection. There are 8,877 active Covid-19 cases in the country. More than 3.5 million tests have been conducted across the country. As many as 480 patients under treatment at various hospitals are said to be in critical condition.

So far, Sindh has reported 137,467 cases of the coronavirus, Punjab 99,605, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 37,845, Balochistan 15,302, Islamabad 16,650, Gilgit Baltistan 3,808, and Azad Jammu and Kahsmir 2,754.

India’s coronavirus case tally climbed to 6.39 million after it reported 81,484 new infections in the last 24 hours, while related deaths were just shy of 100,000 mark, data from the health ministry showed on Friday.

Deaths from coronavirus infections rose by 1,095 in the last 24 hours to 99,773, the ministry said.

Prominent UK MPs join Labour Friends of Kashmir executive
Labour members of the UK parliament including Shabana Mahmood, Naz Shah, Sam Tarry and Rachel Hopkins have joined the Labour Friends of Kashmir Executive at the inaugural meeting of the Labour Friends of Kashmir Parliamentary Liaison Committee.

The organisation chair Andrew Gwynne MP announced the appointments of the Labour MPs. At least 20 MPS attended the meeting.

Senior officials of the organisation including Chairman Andrew Gwynne, National Coordinator Wajid Khan and General Secretary Waseem Zaffar gave briefing to the members of the UK parliament on the work of the organisation. They highlighted the importance of helping the Labour Party develop a strong policy to bring about peace in South Asia with a focus on the eradication of human rights violations.

Briefing the MPs, the chairman said, "I'm delighted to welcome my parliamentary colleagues to the executive who will join a talented group wanting to work across the Labour movement to play a role in bringing about a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Kashmir issue. Shabana, Naz, Sam and Rachel are all champions of the cause, and their skills will make Labour Friends of Kashmir stronger."

Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP and Anas Sarwar MSP will now work as West Midlands and Scottish Parliament spokespersons for Labour Friends of Kashmir, respectively, according to an announcement at the meeting.

Gwynne commented, "Liam and Anas are two of the most passionate parliamentarians who have always spoke up in support of the people of Kashmir. Their organisational skills will no doubt be a huge asset to Labour Friends of Kashmir."

Associated with the Labour movement, the Labour Friends of Kashmir is a voluntary group that campaigns for peace and justice in Kashmir, with a specific focus on international law and human rights.
