Centre blaming Sindh to hide its own incompetency: Murad Ali Shah

Murad Ali Shah
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, while reacting to Centre's earlier accusations that the provincial government was responsible for the recent gas outages in Karachi, maintained that the federal government is blaming Sindh government to hide its own inefficiency.

While speaking to media after inaugurating the Manora Beach Road on Saturday, CM Murad said he was surprised to know that the federal government was holding Sindh responsible for the crisis.

“The federal government is controlling power and gas generating and distributing companies, and they are responsible for providing uninterrupted power and gas supplies,” he asserted, adding that the main reason for making such allegations was to hide one's own incompetency.

Referring to the newly unveiled Rs1.1 trillion Karachi development package, Shah noted that most of the projects are underway already and are funded by the provincial government.

He said his government is committed to developing the infrastructure, drainage, and the sewerage and mass transit systems of the city on a priority basis.

The metropolis is once again hit hard by the crippling power outages in many parts of the city owing to extremely low gas production at SUI Southern Gas Company (SSGC) fields causing a shortfall of as much as 960-970 mmcfd.

Armenian, Azerbaijani forces Clashed over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said Azerbaijan had launched an air and artillery attack.
Clashes have broken out between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, with at least one Azerbaijani helicopter shot down.

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said Azerbaijan had launched an air and artillery attack.

Azerbaijan said it was responding to shelling along the whole front. Both sides have reported civilian deaths.

The long-running conflict has flared up again in recent months.

Both Armenia and Azerbaijan were part of the Soviet Union before its collapse in 1991.

For four decades they have been stuck in an unresolved conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians.
Border fighting in July killed at least 16 people, prompting the largest popular demonstration for years in the Azerbaijani capital Baku calling for full mobilisation and the recapture of the region.

What are the two sides saying?

The Armenian Defence Ministry said an attack on civilian settlements, including the regional capital Stepanakert, began at 08:10 local time (04:10 GMT).

It said it had shot down two helicopters and three drones, and destroyed three tanks.

"Our response will be proportionate, and the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan bears full responsibility for the situation," it said in a statement.

Later spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said a woman and child had been killed, and further reports of casualties were being verified.

Meanwhile Azerbaijan announced a "counter-offensive operation of our troops along the entire front to suppress the combat activity of the armed forces of Armenia and ensure the safety of the civilian population".

Intensive shelling of several villages had led to civilians being killed or wounded, and severe damage to infrastructure, its Defence Ministry said.

It added that one helicopter had been lost but the crew had survived, and 12 Armenian air defence systems had been destroyed. It denied other losses reported by Armenia.

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has long been trying to mediate a settlement of the conflict, with diplomats from France, Russia and the US - making up the OSCE Minsk Group - trying to build on a ceasefire.

Police constitute committee to probe Talal Chaudry incident

Talal Chaudry
A committee has been set up to probe an incident between Tallal Chaudry that left the PML-N leader injured in mysterious circumstances, local police said Sunday.

According to police, the four-member committee will record statements of both Chaudry and a woman who is said to be involved in the incident.

The committee was directed to submit an inquiry report within three days.

Chaudry, on the other hand, also spoke of the incident, asking media outlets to wait for him to "issue a detailed statement about the incident".

"The news about me being broadcast based on sources is not rooted in facts," he said on Twitter. "Until my position is presented, please do not run any news that may create misunderstandings and resentments.

He added that it had "nothing to do with any woman MNA" and requested the media to "understand the familial sensitivities pertaining to women".

"The honour and dignity of all mothers, sisters, and daughters should be taken care of. It's reprehensible for some government miscreants to politicise the incident," he stated.

Moreover, PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said an investigation would decide whether the matter was a violation of party discipline or not but warned that Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Political Communications Dr Shahbaz Gill "wishes to take the matter in the wrong direction".

Private schools to provide free tuition for pupils whose parents died of covid19

Private schools to provide free tuition for pupils whose parents died of covid19
Private school associations of Karachi have announced on Saturday free schooling up to matriculation for students who have lost their parents COVID-19.

According to the details, representatives of private schools who jointly held a press conference in Karachi today announced free tuition for pupils whose parents died due to coronavirus.

Furthermore, the associations have claimed that they will ensure that all schools must follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) advised by the government.

An official from one of the representative groups, Shahzad Akhtar, while reiterating free tuition announcement, said that those parents who have not been able to pay the school fees for the past seven months will be allowed easy instalments.

Akhtar urged the parents who could afford to pay the fee upfront to do so.

Another representative, Haider Ali, in his media address said that private schools endorse the 76-point SOPs laid out for the schools’ management and that they patiently await the SOPs for parents who send their children to schools.

He asserted that the children will be safe in schools and that the school staff will ensure social distancing amongst the kids, adding that the staff training to ensure SOPs is underway.

Ali said that school canteens will remain closed and the children will have to bring their lunch and water bottles from home.

Another representative, Syed Tariq Shah, noteddd that without the transfer certificates, no school will extend admissions to children in their schools, indicating the likely step by parents to default on seven-month fees and get their children admissions elsewhere.

Shah said that the kids with COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home without being marked absent.
