LB elections could not be held under census of 1998: Murad Ali Shah

Syed Murad Ali Shah
Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday said that local government elections in the province will be held after delimitation of constituencies.

Talking to media in Sehwan, Sindh chief minister said that the exercise of delimitation of constituencies for local bodies polls will be held after population census.

The process of delimitation under the law, could be initiated after approval of the census results by the Council of Common Interest (CCI), Murad Ali Shah said.

The local councils elections could not be held under the population census of 1998, he said.

“Local bodies elections will be held after 120 days of delimitation of the constituencies,” he added.

Sindh chief minister talking to media also condemned the Lahore motorway gang rape incident.

Murad Ali Shah also visited the grave of his father Syed Abdullah Shah and offered Fateha.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had recently said that local government elections in Sindh could not take place until a final notification of the population census carried out in 2017 was issued.

PPP’s Sindh chief Nisar Khuhro talking to media after attending a meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on local government elections had said the commission was informed that even carrying out delimitation of constituencies before publication of the final report of the census was unlawful.

Neymar sealed an endorsement deal with Puma

Neymar
Neymar has sealed an endorsement deal with Puma, the German company announced on Saturday, two weeks after the Brazilian superstar left his long-time sponsor Nike.

"Welcome to the fam @neymarjr #KingIsBack" Puma tweeted alongside a photo of the Paris Saint-Germain striker, kitted out in the sportswear giant's clothes.

The world's most expensive player confirmed his new role as Puma's poster boy in an open letter posted on social media.

"I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pele, Cruyff, Eusebio and Maradona....who each played in Puma.

"For these reasons, from today onward, I have the honour to unite with the brand that helped the biggest legends of football become what they are," he wrote.

Neither Neymar nor Puma gave details of the length of the contract or how much it was worth.

Speculation has been flying that the 28-year-old would sign with Puma since his endorsement deal ended with Nike, the company that had sponsored him since he was a 13-year-old prodigy. - Puma statue -

News that a deal had been struck was first published by Brazilian sports site Esporte Interativo, which is known for breaking the story of Neymar´s transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017.

Citing "exclusive information," it said details on the agreement and Neymar's first promotional appearances for Puma were expected "in the coming days."

Neymar had appeared to drop hints that a deal was close, said Esporte Interativo.

He recently followed Puma, PumaFootball and eight other accounts associated with the brand on Instagram, and posted a picture of himself Thursday with what appeared to be a statue of a puma in the background.

Neymar's last arrangement with Nike was reportedly an 11-year contract worth a total $105 million.

Forbes magazine, which ranks him the world's seventh highest-paid celebrity, estimates his earnings for this year at $95.5 million, including endorsement deals.

PSG paid a record 222 million euros for his transfer from Barcelona in 2017.

With his skinny good looks, tattoos, ever-changing hairstyles and huge following on social media, Neymar is one of the biggest names in sports and beyond — though his brand has been tarnished at times.

On the pitch, critics accuse him of diving in matches. Off the pitch, he has faced accusations of tax fraud and a 2019 rape allegation.

Brazilian police later dismissed the latter case, citing a lack of evidence.

He was forced to miss PSG's Ligue 1 season-opener on Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19 following a holiday in Ibiza after PSG's Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich.

Palestinians rally in Gaza against Bahrain-Israel normalisation

Palestinians rally in Gaza
Palestinians in Gaza rallied against Bahrain-Israel normalisation as they burnt pictures of Israeli, US, Bahraini, and United Arab Emirates leaders in protest over the two Gulf countries’ moves to normalise ties with Israel.

Bahrain on Friday joined the UAE in agreeing to normalise relations with Israel, a move forged partly through shared fears of Iran but one that could leave the Palestinians further isolated.

The Gaza protest, attended by a few dozen, was organised by Hamas.

“We have to fight the virus of normalisation and block all its paths before it succeeds, to prevent it from spreading,” said Hamas official Maher al-Holy.

Demonstrators set fire to pictures of US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nayhan.

While the United States, Israel, the UAE, and Bahrain hail the diplomatic moves as a major step toward Middle East peace and stability, the Palestinians see it as a betrayal.

They fear a weakening of a longstanding pan-Arab position that calls for Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory and acceptance of Palestinian statehood in return for normal relations with Arab countries.

Despite a deep political rift going back to 2007, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, whose Palestinian Authority has a limited rule in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and his Hamas rivals have been united against the Gulf states’ move.

In the West Bank, the Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Saeb Erekat, said the diplomatic push will not achieve peace if the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not resolved first.

“The Bahraini, Israeli, American agreement to normalise relations is now part of a bigger package in the region, it isn’t about peace, it is not about relations between countries. We are witnessing an alliance, a military alliance being created in the region,” Erekat told Reuters.

Students, teachers not required to bring coronavirus test reports: Punjab Govt

Schools to reopen after corona lockdown
The government of Punjab has not made it a requirement for the students or teachers to bring reports of their coronavirus test ahead of the reopening of educational institutes, the provincial healthcare department clarified on Sunday.

School, colleges and universities are reopening from Monday which were ordered to close in March to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The government had decided to resume educational activities from September 15 after virus cases recorded a steady decline in the country during the past few weeks. The health authorities have issued safety measures for the management of educational institutions and students to be followed during classes.

In a clarification letter to the relevant institutions, Primary & Secondary Health Care Department (P&SHD) Secretary Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis said the government of Punjab did not lay down any prerequisite for teachers or students to bring their coronavirus test reports.

The tests would, however, be carried out by the provincial government itself once the education institutes reopened — set for September 15, Younis added, noting that a comprehensive strategy had already been developed for testing in schools, colleges, and universities.

Moreover, a random sampling would be done once in a fortnight from every educational institute located in districts marked as high risk for the deadly coronavirus, he noted.

The secretary further underlined that there was no requirement for any tests, except random sampling, at the official level. No educational institute had the authority to request coronavirus test reports from teachers or students, he said, adding that it was only for the government to do so.

Parents, teachers and students may call 1033 to obtain details about coronavirus symptoms and other information. Alternatively, information may also be obtained through the P&SHD social media accounts.
