Naval Day being observed today to pay homage to heroes of 1965 War

Naval Day being observed today
Pakistan Navy is observing Naval Day today (Tuesday) to pay tribute to the martyrs and ghazis of 1956 war.

The day is observed to acknowledge the sacrifices and spirit of our Naval heroes who epitomized grit, courage and valour during the 1965 War.

The day reminds us of the heroic deeds and daring achievements of our Ghazis and Shuhada who fought gallantly and humbled a much bigger adversary with their absolute faith in Allah.

On the night of 7 September, the Pakistan Navy launched its assault on Western Indian shores. Dwarka was chosen for its proximity 200 km (120 mi) from Karachi Port).

The plan called for a fleet of 7 naval vessels of Pakistan to bomb the town of Dwarka. It was aimed at luring the heavy ships anchored in Bombay into attacking the Pakistani ships to enable the submarine PNS Ghazi lurking in the Arabian Sea to engage and sink the Indian ships.

Accordingly, a fleet of seven ships comprising PNS Babur, PNS Khaibar, PNS Badr, PNS Jahangir, PNS Alamgir, PNS Shah Jahan and PNS Tippu Sultan set sail for Dwarka and bombarded the town.

Pakistan Navy in its successful assault destroyed several installations including radar, railway station, cement factory of Associated Cement Company. Smoke from the damage was visible to the Pakistani warships.

Corona vaccine may be ready by october: Donald Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump
President Trump on Monday ripped into Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris after the senator said she doesn’t trust Trump when it comes to a coronavirus vaccine.

The president stressed that the vaccine will be “very safe and very effective,” and could be delivered as early as October before the election, he said.

“You could have a very big surprise coming up,” Trump said, later adding, “We’re going to have a vaccine very soon, maybe even before a very special date. You know what date I’m talking about.”

The president was presumably referring to Election Day on Nov. 3, when he will face off against former Vice President Joe Biden.

Harris, Biden’s running mate, in a weekend CNN interview was asked if she would get a coronavirus vaccine that was approved by the federal government before the presidential election.

“Well, I think that’s going to be an issue for all of us,” Harris said.

“I will say that I would not trust Donald Trump and it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he’s talking about,” Harris added. “I will not take his word for it.”

Biden on Monday said that Trump has been “undermining public confidence” in a COVID-19 vaccine.

“I would want to see what the scientists said,” Biden said when asked if he would take a coronavirus vaccine before the election. “I want full transparency on a vaccine.”

Trump on Monday said that Biden and Harris should “immediately apologize for the reckless anti-vaccine rhetoric that they are talking right now.”

“They’re going to make the vaccine into a negative,” the president said, later adding, “Now they’re saying, ‘Wow, Trump’s pulled this off. OK, let’s disparage the vaccine.’ That’s so bad for this country. That’s so bad for the world to even say that.”

The U.S. is producing a vaccine in record time, Trump said.

“With me, it’s the faster the better,” he said. “If we get the vaccine early, that’s a great thing.”

The president also talked about the military in the wake of a bombshell story from The Atlantic, which alleges Trump calling U.S. soldiers who died in battle “losers” and “suckers.” The president also requested that wounded veterans get kept out of military parades, according to The Atlantic.

Trump has denied that he made the remarks, saying last week, “It’s a fake story and it’s a disgrace that they’re allowed to do it.”

On Monday, Trump said of the military, “I’m not saying the military’s in love with me.

The soldiers are. The top people in the Pentagon probably aren’t because they want to do nothing but fight wars, so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy.”

Karachi development plan: Centre does not trust Sindh govt: Shibli

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz.
The Centre cannot give Karachi Transformation Plan's funds to Sindh government as it does not trust it, said Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz.

"We did not want to give the funds directly to the Sindh government, because honestly, we don't trust them," he told a news conference on Monday.

"The provincial government had taken billions of rupees for development, however, it has been exposed during the recent rains," added Faraz.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Centre, Sindh government, and the armed forces are part of the Rs1,100bn plan to ensure its implementation and completion on time, he said.

Clearing up the 'confusion', Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said that the federal government will allocate Rs611bilion in the Rs1.1tln Karachi Transformation Plan.

In a statement, the planning minister said that the city's development projects will take place under the Karachi Transformation Plan.

Umar's clarification came on the heels of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's statement on Sunday during a rally in which he said that Sindh government was contributing Rs800bn for the Karachi package whereas the Centre was only allocating Rs300bn.

Providing a breakdown of the development plan, Umar said that the greater Karachi water supply — KIV scheme — will cost around Rs46billion whereas Rs300bn will be allocated for the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project.

He said that Rs131 billion have been allocated for the railway freight corridor while the government will also allocate Rs5billion for the Green line project.

Referring to people displaced by the clearing of encroachments on nullahs, the minister said that the government had allocated Rs254 bn to provide them compensation.

The cost of all these projects will amount to an estimated Rs736billion and the federal government will release Rs611billion from it, he said.

"The Sindh government has expressed its wish to take over the KCR project," he said, adding that constitutionally, railways was the jurisdiction of the Centre.

The minister noted that the Supreme Court had also directed the federal government to start work on some projects and that it was the Centre's responsibility to kickstart the KCR project.

"The federal government is considering working with the Sindh government for the development of Karachi," Umar said, adding that the reason for announcing the package was to provide relief to the people of Karachi, not indulge in "point-scoring".

"The reason for this justification was to keep certain misunderstandings [regarding the plan] at bay," he added.
