How Kate Middleton's Relationship With The Queen Changed During COVID-19

both the royals have been staying at different places
Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth's bond has grown deeper ever since the coronavirus pandemic swept across the UK.

As Queen Elizabeth has been based at Windsor Castle currently, she is seeking help from Kate.

While both the royals have been staying at different places, Us Weekly reported that the relationship between them has changed drastically.

According to the outlet, the Queen has been looking up to Kate to run things smoothly in her absentia.

“These are strange times for everyone, senior royals included, and having Kate as her rock has made it so much easier for the queen to adapt to her new life at Windsor,” a source said.

“More than anything, knowing she can rely on Kate and Prince William to handle matters in her absence is the greatest comfort she could ask for.”

It is also said that Kate often seeks advice from the Queen as the future Queen consort of Britain.

"Her Majesty sees the Cambridges as the future of the monarchy and trusts Kate and William’s judgment implicitly," said the source.

“Kate asks for advice about speeches she’s due to make, whom she can depend on most within the palace and protocol dos and don’ts. The queen’s more than happy to impart her wisdom—she’s proud to be Catherine’s go-to adviser about royal life.”

Kate is currently quarantining with husband Prince William and their three kids at Anmer Hall country home in Norfolk.

They will make their way back to London in September as Prince George and Princess Charlotte's school is scheduled to reopen after lockdown.

Honda goes small with first all-electric car

Most EVs use large capacity batteries
As many automakers bet on sedans and SUVs in the switch to electric vehicles, Japan’s Honda Motor Co Ltd has decided smaller is better for its first-ever all-battery car.

The Honda e, released in Europe earlier this month, is a compact model meant solely for city driving. That contrasts with Tesla Inc, whose Model 3 sedan dominates the battery EV market, and others such as Audi AG and Hyundai Motor Co that have focused on SUVs with long driving ranges.

High battery costs have kept EVs at the premium end of the car market, and many automakers are developing bigger, all-purpose models, some of which can drive as far as 570 kilometres on a single charge.

The Honda e, however, has a battery capacity roughly half that of the Model 3, driving just 280 kilometres per charge.

“Most EVs use large capacity batteries, but often, much of that capacity goes unused during city driving,” said Tomofumi Ichinose, chief engineer of the Honda e, told reporters earlier this week.

“We question whether larger vehicles are appropriate for urban areas, and believe that smaller is a better option for cities.”

With a retro, ultra-compact design evoking Honda’s classic N360 and N600 models from the 1960s, the two-door Honda e is intended as an upmarket city car, whose price tag of around 33,000 euros ($39,000) is higher than Renault’s Zoe ZE50, which is roomier and has a longer driving range.

Ichinose said Honda engineers had prioritised accurate and sharp handling to enable easy u-turns in narrow streets. Side mirrors have been replaced with interior displays to avoid bumps and scrapes during parking.

The model will only be sold in Europe and Japan, where it goes on sale in late October. Honda expects annual sales of only around 10,000 in Europe, and 1,000 at home, where it will also introduce the model into its car-sharing fleet.

The automaker said it had no plans to market the car in North America or China, its biggest markets where SUVs dominate.

TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer resigns after Trump threatens to ban app

General Manager Vanessa Pappas will replace him on an interim basis
TikTok Chief Executive Officer Kevin Mayer resigned from his post on Thursday, days after the popular short-form video-sharing app sued the Trump administration over an executive order banning transactions in the United States.

General Manager Vanessa Pappas will replace him on an interim basis, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters.

“In recent weeks, as the political environment has sharply changed, I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for,” Mayer said in the letter.

“Against this backdrop, and as we expect to reach a resolution very soon, it is with a heavy heart that I wanted to let you all know that I have decided to leave the company.”

TikTok, in an emailed statement, confirmed the departure and said that the political dynamics of the last few months had “significantly changed” the scope of Mayer’s role.

ByteDance’s founder and CEO Yiming Zhang said in a separate letter that the company was “moving quickly to find resolutions to the issues that we face globally, particularly in the US and India."
