Pakistan's sensible start against England on day four of third Test

Pakistan vs England
Pakistan resume their second innings on day four of the third Test against England in Southampton on Monday.

The Green Caps will continue their batting on their overnight score of 30-0 after follow on in reply to the hosts’ first innings total of 583-8 declared.

Pakistan’s wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan is confident that his side can still dominate against England in the third Test at the Rose Bowl.

The hosts enforced the follow-on after bowling Pakistan out on 273. The visitors made a comeback from 75-5 courtesy skipper Azhar Ali and Rizwan, who added 138 runs for the sixth wicket.

Rizwan thinks that Pakistan will overcome the deficit of 310 runs and will also add additional runs for England to chase in the fourth innings.

“Our batters are in form and if we play positively, we can do it. We have a few batsmen who can score big, if we can take a 150-run lead then it will be tough for England,” the 28-year-old told reporters.

Nawaz's medical reports were not fudged: Dr Yasmin Rashid

Dr Yasmin Rashid
Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid categorically rejected the assumption that Nawaz Sharif's medical reports had not been fudged, adding that the former prime minister's samples were independently verified and the results matched the ones obtained by the government's labs.

Speaking to a private channel on Sunday, she said: “I don't think anything of the sort happened (Nawaz's medical reports being fudged), samples were properly verified not only from labs operated by the government but independently as well," she said.

She said that the Punjab government had shared these reports with the media as well, implying that no foul play had taken place.

However, the minister said that the PML-N leadership submitted Nawaz's old medical reports in court six weeks after he arrived in London for treatment.

Nawaz’s personal doctor has not forwarded latest medical reports of the former premier so far, she added. The provincial minister said the cabinet had directed Nawaz to fly back to Pakistan after he presented incomplete medical reports. She slammed the PML-N, saying the party has made quite a fuss about Nawaz’s health.

“We diagnosed Nawaz’s ailments and began his treatment but he had the intention of going abroad from the start,” she added.

Nawaz first said he will consult his personal physician and then demanded that he be allowed to have treatment abroad, Dr Yasmin said, adding that he declined an offer to get treatment at a private hospital in the country.

She said that the provincial government provided medical treatment to a 'culprit' in an ethical manner.

Dr Yasmin continued that despite facilitating the former prime minister, the PML-N was issuing statements against the government regarding Nawaz's health.

“If Nawaz Sharif had returned on time, and most importantly if he had had any treatment there, then all these doubts would not have arisen,” she said.

Kashmiri people’s struggle taken a new turn: FM Shah

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Monday Kashmiri people’s struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination has taken a new turn with an indigenous political resistance movement picking up in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at a press conference, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the occupied region’s six political parties rejected Delhi’s Aug 5 move to annex the disputed territory and forged an alliance to wage a joint struggle aimed at reviving the old status of the territory.

This is not something ordinary but an important development as a joint statement issued by these parties bore the signatures of Farooq Abdullah and enjoyed the support of the Congress party, the main opposition party in India, Qureshi said.

He said it is a clear message to the Modi government that the Kashmiris have stood up against the illegal steps of August 5. India resorted to illegal steps to alter the demographic profile of the disputed territory, he lamented.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Prime Minister Imran Khan became Kashmiri people’s voice at every global forum, vehemently raising and drawing world leaders’ attention to the issue.

To a question, he clarified that Saudi Arabia’s stance on the Kashmir dispute remains unchanged. He expressed the optimism that the intra-Afghan dialogue will pave the way for peace in the neighboring country.
