Zimbabwe request govt for permission to tour Pakistan in November

 Zimbabwe Cricket
The Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has sought permission from its government to tour Pakistan for a three-match ODI series and as many T20Is in November.

Zimbabwe had to recently call off a home series against Afghanistan due to additional measures put in place by the government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

ZC Communications Manager Darlington Majonga was quoted as saying by The Chronicle that they are hoping to save their international season with the tour to Pakistan, which would of course be subject to the government’s approval.

"ZC had applied for a waiver to proceed with the series in a strictly controlled environment, but with Zimbabwe experiencing a rise in the number of coronavirus cases, the government advised that the country was not yet ready to host visiting teams,” he said.

“However, all hope is not lost as ZC will seek clearance from the government for the team to travel to Pakistan in October."

PCB, according to sources, is busying making bio-secure arrangements for the Zimbabwe series as well as the remianing matches of the Pakistan Super League 2020.

The board intends to hold the T20 matches after the Zimbabwe series.

BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal tests positive for coronavirus

BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal
Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Akhtar Mengal announced Wednesday he had tested positive for coronavirus.

The BNP leader took to Twitter to say that he is advising everyone who interacted with him in the last few days to get tested for the virus immediately.

The politician shared the news at the time when the country is apparently facing a downward trend in the spread of the virus.

Dr Faisal Sultan, the focal person on coronavirus for Prime Minister Imran Khan, earlier attributed the daily drop in the number of tests being conducted to a decline in the COVID-19 cases being reported across the country.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had recommended Pakistan increase daily testing to above 50,000, but after peaking at 31,000 tests exactly a month ago, the South Asian nation tested less than 20,000 people in July.

Last month, Dr Zafar Mirza, former SAPM on health, also joined a long list of Pakistani lawmakers who had tested positive for the virus.

During the same time, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced he had tested positive for coronavirus and gone into self-isolation.

In June, Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader and Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Aminul Haq had also tested positive for coronavirus.

In the same month, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said she had tested positive.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, PTI MNA Jai Prakash, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister of State for Narcotics Shehryar Afridi and PTI's chief whip in the National Assembly Aamir Dogar had also contracted COVID-19.

Previously, many politicians including PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, ANP’s Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, and Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari had tested positive for coronavirus, after which they went into self-isolation and recovered.

PTI Punjab Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shaheen Raza was the first lawmaker in the country to succumb to the virus.

PTI MPA Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel from Nowshera and PML-N MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema from Gujranwala also passed away after being on the ventilator for a few days.

Sindh cabinet approves creation of new district in Karachi

Sindh cabinet approves creation of new district in Karachi
The Sindh cabinet on Thursday approved to carve a new district in Keamari area by bifurcating Karachi’s District West, according to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s spokesperson.

The new district will comprise Site, Baldia, Harbour and Maripur sub-divisions, the spokesperson said.

He said population-wise city’s west district is the largest one in Sindh. It has a population of 3,914,757.

Currently, Karachi Division comprises six districts namely, South, East, West, Malir, Korangi and Central. In 2013, the PPP government created the Korangi District to make the port city “manageable”.

During the meeting today, CM Murad suggested to name the south district as ‘District Karachi’ and added that other districts be named after the famous areas of the city.

He said that a few ministers have suggested dividing Khairpur into two districts as well.

The CM spokesperson said that the provincial cabinet also approved the Trust Act. The cabinet also discussed the measures against money laundering in the law.

MQM-P, PTI oppose move

MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari said that his party will challenge the decision of a new district in the court.

“Lahore, Multan and other big cities are based on one district,” he said, adding that the PPP is trying to bring its “fake mandate” in Karachi.

He accused the ruling PPP of continuing the enmity towards the metropolis.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman said that his party has also rejected the Sindh’s government’s move.

“New avenues of making money are being introduced,” he claimed, adding that they “doubt the intentions” of the PPP.
