OGRA notifies hike in LPG price for August

OGRA issued a notification
The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas shot up by Rs5/kg in the country, increasing to Rs105/kg on Sunday.

According to LPG Industries Association Pakistan, the price of a gas cylinder meant for domestic use has been increased by Rs60 while a commercial cylinder's price has gone up by Rs230.

Officials said the increase in LPG prices was due to the halt in supply of the fuel from the Pakistan-Iran border crossing in Taftan.

Last month, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority had issued a notification stating the increase in LPG prices for the month of August.

Trump's younger brother dies: White House

Donald Trump’
Donald Trump’s younger brother Robert died on Saturday after being hospitalized for an undisclosed illness, the US president said in a statement mourning his loss.

“It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight,” Trump said in a White House statement.

“He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”

The 74-year-old president had visited his brother on Friday at a hospital in New York, staying for about 45 minutes.

US media reports had reported that Robert Trump was seriously ill, although there were no details.

Donald Trump, who was stopping in New York on the way to his golf club in nearby Bedminster, New Jersey for the weekend, told reporters Friday only that “he’s having a hard time.”

While far less famous than his older brother, Robert Trump, who was born in 1948, had long been an integral part of the family real estate empire and was fiercely loyal to the president.

Robert Trump unsuccessfully went to court to try to get an injunction preventing publication of a book by his niece Mary Trump, called “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

The book, which paints Donald Trump as the product of a “toxic” family was a “disgrace,” Robert Trump said. Although a temporary restraining order was applied, a judge lifted this in July, allowing publication.

Donald Trump has previously called his brother “wonderful” and said they have “had a great relationship for a long time, from day one.”

Donald Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka said on Twitter Saturday: “Uncle Robert, we love you. You are in our hearts and prayers, always.”

Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni retires from international cricket

Former India captain M.S. Dhoni
Former India captain M.S. Dhoni on Saturday announced retirement from international cricket but would play in Indian Premier League (IPL).

"Thanks a lot for your love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired," he wrote on Instagram with a video montage which had images from his 15-year international career.

The message ended speculation around the international future of the enigmatic 39-year-old, who quit test cricket in 2014 and has not played for India since the team's semi-final exit at the 50-overs World Cup in July last year.

"It is the end of an era," Indian cricket board (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said in a statement.

"His leadership qualities have been something which will be hard to match, especially in the shorter format of the game.

"Every good thing comes to an end and this has been an absolutely brilliant one," added Ganguly, himself a former India captain.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah called Dhoni "one of the greats of the modern era".

"I wish him all the very best for IPL and his future endeavours," Shah said, suggesting Dhoni would play in this year's Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates from Sept. 19.

Dhoni burst onto the international scene in an one-dayer against Bangladesh in late 2004 as a long-haired wicketkeeper with spectacular power-hitting prowess.

He went on to become statistically India's most successful captain, leading them to World Cup triumphs in 2007 (T20) and 2011 (ODI), while they also became the top ranked test team under him in 2009.

As a batsman, Dhoni also transformed himself into one of the best finishers of the game, famously illustrating it by securing India's 2011 World Cup victory by hitting a six in the final against Sri Lanka.

The immensely popular cricketer ends his ODI career having played 350 matches, scoring 10,773 runs and effecting 444 dismissals. He holds the record for most dismissals in T20 internationals with 91 in 98 matches.

Overall, Dhoni has amassed 17,000 international runs across formats, including 16 centuries, and more than 800 victims as wicketkeeper.

There were no differences among opposition parties on APC: Maulana Fazlur Rehman

Maulana Fazlur Rehman
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman continued his criticism against the opposition, urging it not to support the government on legislation and stand by its word to oppose it.

The JUI-F chief was speaking to media after offering his condolences at the death of Mian Sareer Hussain on Saturday, brother of ANP General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, at the party’s Bacha Khan office.

Whilst saying that there were no differences among opposition parties on the upcoming All-Parties Conference (APC) or the anti-government movement, he acknowledged that there were some problems among them.

Fazl said that opposition parties on the one hand criticised the government and referred to it as an illegitimate one. However, he said that on the other hand, opposition parties contradicted their own words when they supported the treasury benches by voting for the government's legislation.

"We cannot win the trust of people with contradiction in words and actions,” he said, adding, “We are in contact, but we have to get out of this hesitation and unite so that people can trust the opposition’s movement.”

Regarding the recent legislation in the Parliament on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), he said, ”On the one hand, we are celebrating the Independence Day, on the other, we are making legislation, which denies freedom. If there is a UN resolution that is against the law of Pakistan today then our freedom is over,” he said.

“We will not be able to delay if the United Nations tells us to comply with the demand in a few hours. What would be Pakistan’s position if the UN passes a resolution against Kashmir," he asked.

Fazl was referring to the opposition parties' support to the government on eight Bills in the parliament. Two FATF-related bills — the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill and the United Nations (Security Council) (Amendment) Bill — were passed by the parliament with the support of two main opposition parties a week ago.

However, on Wednesday, five bills sailed through the Lower House after support again from the two main opposition parties. The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill, the Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill, the Companies (Amendment) Bill, the Control of Narcotic Substances (Amendment) Bill and the ICT Trust Bill were passed by the National Assembly on Wednesday.

PML-N always cheated PPP: Asif Zardari

Asif Zardari
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always stabbed him in the back.

Addressing a PPP’s central executive committee (CEC) meeting, Asif Ali Zardari said that the PPP always supported PML-N but in response, the party always cheated him and his party.

He maintained that they will call a separate all parties conference (APC) if PML-N backtracked on his stance, said sources. Zardari said that PPP believed in democracy, adding that they will face conspiracies bravely.

Cracks had started to appear between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaderships after the latter showed no interest in mounting pressure on the incumbent federal government.

According to sources, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had left Lahore after a week-long visit and during the stay, several attempts were made to make contact with the PML-N leadership.

“The PML-N leadership did not give a satisfactory response to the approaches made by the PPP,” they had said. The sources had said that the opposition had suggested holding a multi-party conference before the passage of federal Budget 2020-21.

Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to normalise relations with Israel 'soon'
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are preparing to sign a peace and normalisation agreement with Israel similar to the one declared by the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, sources told the Arabi21 news.

According to the "well-informed sources", official normalisation of relations between the two Arab countries and Israel will be established "after a short period of time", noting that this normalisation is aimed at "supporting US President Donald Trump, in light of the remarkable decline in his chances of winning the elections".

On Thursday, Bahrain congratulated the UAE on concluding the normalisation agreement with Israel, and said that the agreement is part of "measures taken to increase the chances to reach peace in the Middle East".

Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its statement: "The Kingdom of Bahrain extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Emirates on announcing the agreement reached with the United States and Israel to stop annexing Palestinian land and to take measures that increase the chances of reaching peace in the Middle East."
