Pakistan on Friday donated 8 tonnes of relief assistance comprising medicines and food to Lebanon
Pakistan donated 8 tonnes of relief assistance comprising medicines and food to Lebanon as a token of solidarity for the victims of blasts that took place in Beirut on August 4.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a telephonic conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Charbel Wehbe, conveyed deep sorrow and grief of the government and people of Pakistan over the loss of precious lives, injuries to thousands, and extensive material damage, caused by the explosions, a statement issued by the Foreign Office said.

He told the Lebanese foreign minister that the relief assistance would be delivered by Friday evening sent by the government of Pakistan as a token of solidarity.

FM Qureshi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr Arif Alvi had already conveyed profound sympathies and condolences to the Lebanese leadership over the tragedy.

He underscored that at that difficult time, the Pakistani nation stood in strong support and solidarity with the brotherly Lebanese people.

Appreciating the Lebanese people’s resilience, the foreign minister expressed full confidence that they would grapple with the challenging situation with their characteristic strength.

FM Charbel Wehbe expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for their sympathies and solidarity at a difficult time.

The two foreign ministers agreed to remain in close contact.

COAS expresses grief over the demise of Assistant Defence Minister KSA

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday expressed grief over the sad demise of Assistant Defence Minister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ayesh.

The COAS extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and Saudi leadership, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Saturday.

“May Allah Almighty bless the departed soul in eternal peace, Ameen,” he said.

He added that Pakistan and Pakistan Army had lost a true friend who was a shining symbol of the exemplary brotherly relationship between the two countries.

“We stand with our Saudi brethren in committing ourselves to the ideals of fraternity and brotherhood that he always championed,” the COAS said.

Saudi Arabia’s assistant minister of defense, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ayesh, had died on Friday, aged 68.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said he had been suffering from an illness.

85 percent work on Matiari-Lahore transmission line project has been completed: Asim Bajwa

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Saturday that work on 660KV Matiari-Lahore HVDC transmission line project has been completed by 85 percent.

“The transmission line will evacuate power North-South and resolve one major issue,” he said in a tweet.

Asim Bajwa further added that the scope of this project includes 4000MW evacuation capacity.

The line is 886 kilometers long and has 1972 towers. The cost of the project is $1.658 billion which has also created over 2,212 direct jobs for locals, he added.

Earlier on June 18, Chairman China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Lieutenant General (retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa had announced that the second phase of CPEC would create job opportunities for Pakistani youth.
