NAB court indicts Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in illegal appointment case

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi
An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday indicted former prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, in the illegal Pakistan State Oil (PSO) appointments case.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former secretary petroleum Arshad Mirza, former managing director of PSO Sheikh Imranul Haq appeared in court on Wednesday.

The minister, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges read out by Accountability Judge, terming them baseless.

The court has summoned NAB’s witnesses in the case at the next hearing.

The anti-graft watchdog had filed a reference against Abbasi in the illegal appoint of Imran-ul-Haq as PSO managing director in a Karachi accountability court.

The Accountability Court, Karachi had also issued non-bailable warrants for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Abbasi in a reference pertaining to the illegal appointment of managing director PSO.

Earlier in May, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted interim bail to the former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz stalwart, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former secretary petroleum Arshad Mirza in an illegal appointment case.

Abbasi and Mirza had filed a plea in the SHC, seeking interim bail in the illegal appointment.

PM Imran Khan reaffirms Pakistan’s support to the people IOK

PM Imran Khan
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s support to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) in their struggle for self-determination.

In his message on Kashmir Siege Day marking 365 days of the unprecedented, inhuman military siege and communication blockade since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019, PM Imran Khan said that Pakistan will always stand with its brothers and sisters in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) until they get the right to self-determination through a free and impartial plebiscite under the United Nations as per the relevant UNSC Resolutions.

“Let me be absolutely clear: Pakistan will always be with its brothers and sisters in IIOJK. We will never accept, and neither will the Kashmiris, the illegal Indian actions and oppression of the Kashmiri people,” he said.

The prime minister reiterated his call for the international community to step in immediately and take practical steps to force India to reverse its present course against the Kashmiri people.

“For the sake of the besieged people of IIOJK, and for the sake of fairness, justice and human dignity, it is imperative that the international community steps in immediately and backs its words of condemnation with practical steps that will force India to reverse its present course against the Kashmiri people,” he added.

While calling Indian atrocities in IIOJK as a crime against humanity that had destroyed lives, crippled livelihoods, and imperiled the very identity of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), PM Khan said: “Eight million Kashmiris have been made prisoners in their own homes by Modi government.”

Imran Khan said the extremist and expansionist BJP-RSS combine, represented by the current Indian Government, is unabashedly pushing the ‘Hindutva’ agenda.

The official statement further said that Indian government is seeking to change the demographic structure of the region and turn its Muslim majority into a minority in blatant violation of relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and international laws, particularly the 4th Geneva Convention.

Young men are being extrajudicially martyred in “fake encounters” and so-called “cordon and search” operations, almost on a daily basis, while the real Kashmiri political leadership remains incarcerated,” he remarked, the PM Office quoted him as saying in the message.

Punjab Govt to reopen education institutions

Punjab Govt to reopen education institutions
Punjab Education Minister and PTI MPA Dr Murad Raas said on Wednesday that the province will reopen schools tentatively from September 15, adding that the final decision on the matter depends on the “COVID-19 situation in Punjab”.

The minister, in a tweet, said that the Standard Operating Procedures will be followed in schools when they reopen and it will be conveyed to public and private stakeholders.

He added that this was the official information so far regarding the reopening of schools across the province, calling all other news “fake”.

Earlier, Raas had rejected reports of the government reopening schools in the province from August 15, saying that it will happen only if the coronavirus conditions are "manageable".

“FAKE NEWS. No date has been announced for opening of Schools in Punjab. What I have said is that if the conditions of COVID 19 are manageable, only then we will try to open by August 15, 20 under very strict SOPs. I will not endanger the lives of our children or our teachers,” Raas had said in a post on Twitter.

Raas had said the School Education Department (SED) Punjab had prepared detailed SOPs so that once schools reopened, the same could be followed to protect the children.

The minister had said that if they were opened, schools would function in different shifts to ensure physical distancing among the students in classrooms.
