ISPR releases new song expressing solidarity with Kashmiris on eve of Youm-e-Istehsal
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the press wing of the military, has released a new song on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal in solidarity with the Kashmiris.

Director-General ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar shared the song on Twitter and said it is a tribute to the brave people of Kashmir and their relentless struggle for freedom.

The title of the song is ‘Ja Chor Day Meri Waadi’ (Leave my Valley) and begins with the clock ticking that marks 365 days since August 5, 2019, when India had put Kashmiris under lockdown. The song is sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali.

The song highlights the sufferings of Kashmiris, Kashmir uprising and human rights violations by Indian occupation forces in Occupied Kashmir.

August 5th, 2020 marks one year of abrogation of Article 370 and lockdown and curfew in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Pakistan will observe ‘Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir’ (Day of Exploitation in occupied Kashmir) on August 5, to mark one year of Indian government’s move of scrapping special status of the valley.

This was announced by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi while addressing a press conference in Islamabad on July 31.

The foreign minister said that Kashmiri people are facing immense difficulties, pain and persecution under the continued military siege for the last one year.

Last year, the Modi government launched demographic apartheid in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and divided the region into three parts.

Animal sacrifices, festivities continue on second day of Eidul Azha
Eid-ul-Azha celebrations continued on Sunday for the second day across the country as many people are sacrificing animals today amid coronavirus pandemic.

The faithful are slaughtering their sacrificial animals in remembrance of Sunnat-e Ibrahimi which will continue for tomorrow (third day of Eid-ul-Azha).

Also known as the Feast of Sacrifice is one of two Eid festivals observed by the Muslim faithful to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his own son to God. Traditionally marked by the slaughter of animals, whose meat is shared with family members and the poor.

Civic authorities of different cities and towns have also made special arrangements for disposal of offal and other solid waste during three days of Eid.

The government has advised the faithful to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for containing the COVID-19 while performing the ritual of sacrificing animals.

Meanwhile, the first day of Eid-ul-Adha was dawned with special prayers in mosques for well-being of the Ummah and progress, prosperity and security of the country.

President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan also urged the nation to strictly follow precautionary measures on the occasion of Eidul Azha and perform the obligatory rituals of Qurbani, taking care of the poor and needy people.

Prime Minister Imran Khan in his message said the whole world is facing a critical situation right now due to coronavirus as the coronavirus pandemic has become a challenge for all humanity.

Turkish President telephones PM Imran, discuss important regional matters

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and extended greeting on the occasion of Eidul Azha festival.

President Erdogan and PM Khan exchanged good wishes for the nationals of both countries on the occasion of Eidul Fitr festival.

PM Imran Khan congratulated President Erdogan for reopening the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque to worship. He said that millions of Pakistanis watched the moments of reopening the historical grand mosque in Istanbul.

They also held discussions over the important regional matters and aimed to further strenghten bilateral ties.

The premier also praised the efforts of the Turkish president for fighting the coronavirus pandemic and expressed thanks over Ankara’s support to Pakistan and other states.

Both leaders exchanged views on matters related to economic development and saving human lives.

During the telephonic conversation, the state leaders of both countries have agreed to initiate joint efforts on medicine development.

PM Khan urged establishing strong strategic relations between Pakistan and Turkey.

Imran Khan and Recep Tayyip Erdogan also discussed Kashmir dispute. The Turkish president vowed to continue supporting Pakistan over Kashmir dispute besides agreeing to remain in contact on matters related to mutual interests.

Queen appoints British-Pakistani Aamer Sarfraz as member of House of Lords

Queen Elizabeth II has appointed British-Pakistani businessman Aamer Sarfraz as a member of the House of Lords upon the advice of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

At the age of 38, Sarfraz will be one of the youngest members of the House of Lords. He is also the only Pakistani, Muslim, and Asian Conservative nominee featuring in the approved-list by the queen.

Sarfraz has been appointed a member of House of Lords for life for his services to the Conservative Party and for serving as an advisor to the party leadership on community outreach.

The British-Pakistani businessman and philanthropist has also served as the treasurer of the Conservative Party.

A fluent Urdu speaker whose parents originate from Gujrat.

The Dissolutions 2019 peerage list has Sarfraz at number 9 as “Conservative Party Treasurer and Venture Partner at Draper Associates”.

The list has in total 18 names on it which "the queen has been graciously pleased to signify her intention of conferring Peerages of the United Kingdom for Life”.

Ten nominations came from the Conservative Party leader Boris Johnson; two from a Labour leader; one from Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party; and five peerages are non-affiliated.

Former Tory Chancellors Ken Clarke, Philip Hammond, former England Cricketer Ian Botham, who attended pro-Brexit events alongside Boris Johnson and his brother, Jo Johnson, are among a list of 36 peerages announced by the government.

“I am very grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for giving me the opportunity to serve in the House of Lords. As we come out of the coronavirus crisis, there is tremendous work to be done. I look forward to supporting the Prime Minister’s agenda and vision," Sarfraz told The News.

Sarfraz also said that he was "delighted" that the announcement was made on the auspicious day of Eid-ul-Adha. He added that he will work on improving the relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in his new role.

Sarfraz grew up in Islamabad, studied there till 1999 and came to the UK in 2002. He was educated at Boston University and the London School of Economics (LSE). His parents still live in Islamabad and his father Naeem Sarfraz is a retired navy officer.

Sarfraz previously had a successful career as an entrepreneur and venture capital investor, with the Electrum Group and Draper Associates.

Sarfraz says he initiated various social projects in Pakistan, including training and support to thousands of smallholder farmers in Punjab during the past 15 years. Other projects include rural medical camps, clean drinking water infrastructure, juvenile prisoners’ welfare and the first horse-riding therapy program for children with special needs.
