Pakistan mark August 5 as Yaum-e-Istehsal in solidarity with Kashmiris

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced Saturday that the government will hold mark August 5 as 'Yaum-e-Istehsal' day, when India revoked Article 370 of its constitution to annex the disputed territory.

The whole nation should unitedly raise voice against the military siege imposed by New Delhi in the Indian occupied Kashmir a year ago after the revocation of its special status and convey a message to the Kashmiris that they were not alone in their struggle for the right to self-determination, he said while talking to journalists here after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayer.

“On the day (August 5, 2019), the IIOJK’s flag was downed, the Kashmiris were put behind the bars, and perhaps today no Eid prayer congregation was held in Srinagar,” he said.

The Kashmiri people had been facing immense difficulties, pain and persecution under the continued military siege for the last one year, he added.

The foreign minister said he himself would visit the Line of Control on August 3 to deliver a message that the Pakistani nation stood with the Kashmiri brethren in their just struggle for self-determination right.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said, would address the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 to further highlight the Kashmiri people’s struggle for freedom and their sufferings at the hands of Indian occupation forces.

Similarly, he said President Dr Arif Alvi would lead a rally on the day while all the chief ministers would speak to their respective legislature assemblies to condemn Indian brutalities on the people of held valley to impose the so-called Hindutva ideology.

Qureshi said the whole world, including the Muslim Ummah, was condemning the Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government’s move for laying the foundation of a temple at the place of Babri Mosque. As regards the creation of South Punjab province, the minister said initially two secretariats would be established at Multan and Bahawalpur.

He had arranged a meeting of the region’s parliamentarians with the prime minister to present their point of view about the said move.

He said two secretaries would be deputed at the secretariats and no file would move to Lahore for a decision. The Punjab chief minister had already altered rules of business in that regard. “It is a big achievement and a step forward towards the creation of South Punjab province.”

Referring to the PM’s package for the construction industry, Qureshi said 13 top builders of the country had decided to invest Rs 300 billion in the housing sector, which would boost its attached industries like steel, cement, bricks etc, and also strengthen the national economy.

COAS General Bajwa spend time with troops at LOC

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited the Line of Control (LoC) at the Khuiratta Sector to spend time with troops deployed at the frontlines, reiterating the armed forces' resolve to always stand by its Kashmiri brethren.

"COAS spent time with troops on Eid day, commended their high morale, operational readiness & continuous vigil being maintained along the LOC. While interacting with troops, COAS said that Eid-ul-Azha," read a tweet by the DG ISPR.


The army chief said that Eid ul Adha epitomises unconditional sacrifice. "No one understands this spirit of sacrifice better than a soldier. Let us also reiterate our pledge to always stand by our Kashmiri brethren braving Indian atrocities for their right of self-determination despite all odds," the tweet quoted him as saying.

 
The army chief stated that the armed forces were aware of the enemy's design to destabilise the country, issuing such elements a warning. "Pak Army is fully prepared and capable of thwarting any such covert or overt undertakings," he said.

"COAS also visited AFIC and NIHD & performed earth breaking of NEPCARD where indigenous research on heart diseases will be carried out including their preventive measures.

Appreciating contributions of Army Medical Corps, COAS said that AFIC & NIHD being state of the art facility is providing high quality medical care at National level. He especially lauded the contributions of doctors and healthcare workers as frontline soldiers against COVID 19 pandemic," tweeted the DG ISPR.

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has reiterated that Prime Minister Imran Khan is not going anywhere.

Talking to media after offering Eid prayers in Rawalpindi, Sheikh Rasheed said that the opposition will make noise for next three months but nothing will change.

“Strict action would be taken if anyone tries to take law into hands.”

Replying to a query, the federal minister PM Khan will not spare wheat and sugar thieves, they will be made accountable.

He further said that Pakistan’s economy is passing through tough phase but economy of a country like United States of America (USA) has also been destroyed by coronavirus pandemic.

He also claimed that people who looted the country want changes in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws.

Earlier this year, Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed had said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would complete his constitutional term.

“All institutions are on one page, PM Khan will complete his 5-year-term,” Sheikh Rasheed had said while speaking to media.

Queen appoints British-Pakistani Aamer Sarfraz as member of House of Lords

Queen Elizabeth II has appointed British-Pakistani businessman Aamer Sarfraz as a member of the House of Lords upon the advice of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

At the age of 38, Sarfraz will be one of the youngest members of the House of Lords. He is also the only Pakistani, Muslim, and Asian Conservative nominee featuring in the approved-list by the queen.

Sarfraz has been appointed a member of House of Lords for life for his services to the Conservative Party and for serving as an advisor to the party leadership on community outreach.

The British-Pakistani businessman and philanthropist has also served as the treasurer of the Conservative Party.

A fluent Urdu speaker whose parents originate from Gujrat.

The Dissolutions 2019 peerage list has Sarfraz at number 9 as “Conservative Party Treasurer and Venture Partner at Draper Associates”.

The list has in total 18 names on it which "the queen has been graciously pleased to signify her intention of conferring Peerages of the United Kingdom for Life”.

Ten nominations came from the Conservative Party leader Boris Johnson; two from a Labour leader; one from Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party; and five peerages are non-affiliated.

Former Tory Chancellors Ken Clarke, Philip Hammond, former England Cricketer Ian Botham, who attended pro-Brexit events alongside Boris Johnson and his brother, Jo Johnson, are among a list of 36 peerages announced by the government.

“I am very grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson for giving me the opportunity to serve in the House of Lords. As we come out of the coronavirus crisis, there is tremendous work to be done. I look forward to supporting the Prime Minister’s agenda and vision," Sarfraz told The News.

Sarfraz also said that he was "delighted" that the announcement was made on the auspicious day of Eid-ul-Adha. He added that he will work on improving the relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom in his new role.

Sarfraz grew up in Islamabad, studied there till 1999 and came to the UK in 2002. He was educated at Boston University and the London School of Economics (LSE). His parents still live in Islamabad and his father Naeem Sarfraz is a retired navy officer.

Sarfraz previously had a successful career as an entrepreneur and venture capital investor, with the Electrum Group and Draper Associates.

Sarfraz says he initiated various social projects in Pakistan, including training and support to thousands of smallholder farmers in Punjab during the past 15 years. Other projects include rural medical camps, clean drinking water infrastructure, juvenile prisoners’ welfare and the first horse-riding therapy program for children with special needs.
