AC adjourns hearing of assets reference against Ishaq Dar
An accountability court in Islamabad has adjourned the hearing of assets reference against former finance minister Ishaq Dar due to absence of the defence counsel, on Wednesday.

The accountability court’s judge Mohammad Bashir heard the assets reference against Ishaq Dar. Co-accused Naeem Mehmood and Mansoor Raza appeared in the hearing.

The assistant lawyer told the court that defence counsel Qazi Misbah could not appear in the hearing due to a busy schedule at the high court.

During the hearing, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor said that Dar’s records have been received from the high court.

Later, the accountability court adjourned the hearing till December 16 due to the absence of the defence counsel.

It may be mentioned here that Ishaq Dar had been declared a proclaimed offender due to his continuous absence from the hearings of the different cases. He is facing charges of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

Govt grants one-day extension in Shehbaz, Hamza’s parole
The Punjab government extended on Wednesday parole of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz for one day, reported.

Sources relayed Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar gave approval for the extension during a consultative meeting convened to take up a plea seeking extension in the father-son duo’s parole period.

The PML-N had submitted an application to the Punjab Home Department for extension in parole period of its president Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz. They were released on a five-day parole period on November 27 (Friday) following the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar.

A large number of people want to come and condole the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar with Shehbaz and Hamza, the application said, calling for extension in the parole period.

Speaking to the media earlier, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan said the Punjab government would not allow any extension in parole period of Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza.

She said: “Extending release on parole is not a part of government’s policy. Whether it is a member of the Sharif family or an ordinary citizen, the government will ensure the same law.”

Coronavirus: Pakistan reports 2829 new cases within 24 hrs

Coronavirus: Pakistan reports 2829 new cases within 24 hrs
Pakistan has recorded fresh 2,829 COVID-19 cases and 75 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours, on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, 40 more people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 8,166. 2,079 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours and 2,244 patients are in critical condition.

The total count of active cases increased up to 49,780.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), with fresh inclusion of the infections in the country the national tally of cases now currently stands at 403,311.

A total of 35,197 tests were conducted across the country during this period. 345,365 people have recovered from the deadly disease while 5,584,976 samples have been tested thus far.

PM Imran Khan to attend oath-taking ceremony of GB cabinet
Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to pay a one-day visit to Gilgit-Baltistan today where he will attend the oath-taking ceremony of new GB cabinet, citing sources, on Wednesday.

All preparations have been completed ahead of the premier’s visit to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) today.

He will be accompanied by chief organiser Saifullah Khan Niazi, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan (FB) Ali Amin Gandapur and Adviser to PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam.

During his upcoming visit, PM Imran Khan will also meet governor, chief minister and cabinet members, sources added.

Earlier on November 30, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Barrister Khalid Khursheed had been elected as Gilgit-Baltistan’s new chief minister.

The election for the leader of the house of Gilgit Baltistan Assembly had held through the show of hands in the GB Assembly Hall in Gilgit on Monday.

Muhammad Khalid Khursheed got 22 votes while the opposition nominated candidate Amjad Hussain secured 9 votes. The session was presided over by Speaker Syed Amjad Ali Zaidi.

Last week, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had clinched both speaker and deputy speaker seats in the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA).
